Re: Silver Solder

McMaster has the world’s best online catalog. That said, RioGrande.com is a good source for lots of flavors of sliver brazing alloy.

Re: WTB Silver Solder

I have had one of those Turbo-Torches for many years. I’ve used it for sweating home copper tubing, silver brazing 32mm boilers, and heat treating. It’s a nice tool. I run it on a 20-lb BBQ propane cylinder. The only fault with mine is that the plastic handle spins too freely on the torch body. I’ll...

Re: How to converge to the desired diameter when fitting pieces?

Do you have a DRO? If not, you’d be surprised how much the cross-slide moves just from starting the lathe spindle. It even happens a couple “tenths” on my rigid Monarch 10EE. If no DRO you can put a DTI against the cross slide or toolpost to catch this unintended movement. Sent from my iPhone using ...

Re: Installing a timing belt

Did you remove the cupboard door and cupboard from the base to access the motor timing belt? It took me a while to realize that was the best way to access the belt.

Re: Installing a timing belt

The cords will not allow the belt to stretch any appreciable amount. I am afraid you are stuck with some disassembly and reassembly. I had to do similar to replace the belt between the motor and variator input. Even then, it was an ordeal getting the belt on because the shaft center distance is buil...

Re: Graziano SAG12

I’d post it over on Practicalmachinist’s machinery for sale section. My guess on value is between $3500 and $5500. You are in a machine tool desert up there, which drives up value, but may be a machine tool buyer desert, too. It’d sell fast down here in the Bay Area. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Re: Drilling Stainless Tube

Hand drill, drill press, or mill? If the latter two, you should be able to drill it. Get the speed down to 50 ft/min, for one. For a 1/4” drill, that’s 750 RPM. Next, feed it hard enough to make a continuous chip, and don’t stop until you’re through. You may not be able to push hard enough with a ha...

Re: #40 NMTB mill arbor

What about putting the running bushing at 12" and letting the remainder just hang out? That’s how I run my arbor. I do have to be careful around the rotating shaft sticking out. You likely will find that the arbor is harder than the hubs of Hades, so not amenable to easy shortening. BTDT, have...
