Re: Need hard to describe window release wrench

Home Depot has a universal casement window crank set. It comes with a bunch of different inserts to fit a variety of windows. Not sure if it is adaptable to your problem, but take a look at it sometime. Dennis

Re: Electro-magnetic chuck control

Won't work. Transformers are AC only, the falling/rising input field every time the polarity reverses is what generates voltage in the output windings.

Re: Color Code for Treadmill Motor Wires?

I believe the blue wires are the overheat sensor. The tach on all the treadmills I have seen is a slotted or striped disc that rotates between the legs of an optical sensor. It is on the end of the treadmill drive roller. Dennis

If you go to most joist span calculators, 19.2" is one of the choices available for spacing:

Re: SLIP ROLLERS/ American vs. foreign

A quick look revealed that the Tennsmith weighs nearly twice as much as the Jet, although the Jet does not have a stand. Slip rolls are a tool that should be easy to inspect if buying used. Check for rust, bent rolls, loose gears, etc. I purchased a 24" roll from Summit Racing because it is loc...

Re: Boring head shank

Does it even matter if it is not perfectly concentric? A cutter with multiple edges like an end mill or drill bit needs to be centered to allow all the teeth to cut, and to give a true hole size. But a boring head is just a single cutting edge whirling around at whatever radius you set. Dennis

Re: retro fit spindle brake

"You can also kill power to the motor. My big lathe drops the motor power when the magnetic brake is applied." I haven't seen one like that. I wonder if it uses reverse current to brake the motor also. One problem I can see with braking the entire drivetrain, is that it adds a larger amoun...

Re: retro fit spindle brake

It would seem to be difficult. Remember it not only brakes the spindle but it also disconnects the spindle from it's drive (the motor keeps running). Lathes with a spindle brake have a clutch that operates first then the brake applies. It can be done but it would be a lot of engineering. My Shoptask...

Re: Ok, Its Not Exactly Metalworking

You don't have a radial arm saw or table saw? Gotta diversify that workshop! I have done the opposite of your nice work around... I used my radial arm saw to cut a deep 1/8" slot in a large aluminum block. And I use the miter saw regularly to cut aluminum stock.

McMaster-Carr. Applied Industrial Technology (the old Bearings Inc), that's where I got a matched set last year.

Re: DC motor help

I am using the same type of motor and electronics to build a light duty conveyor belt. Mine is a 1.5 hp. I notice both this pictured motor and mine have the rotation specified, do they not change direction if you switch the wires?
