Re: Recommendations for a non digital outside Micrometer
You've learned nothing. You don't have so much as a remote idea about my views on these subjects <snip> I don't know what you do for a living <snip> You even have the privilege of flagging me as your enemy. Actually I do know what your opinion is on carbide, cobalt, green wheels & calipers. Tho...

Re: Recommendations for a non digital outside Micrometer
My reply distinctly makes reference to calipers, either digital or dial (you can include vernier) and is appropriate for those instruments. In fact, that topic isn't even worthy of debate, as anyone with an understanding should clearly know that calipers do not have the capability to provide reliab...

Re: Recommendations for a non digital outside Micrometer
In a sense, my response does answer your question, although it may not appear to do so. What's important to remember is that the nature of the design of calipers is such that they offer a degree of error, regardless of the method by which the reading is displayed. That you can achieve a repeatable ...

Re: Recommendations for a non digital outside Micrometer
Makes no difference. Neither can be relied upon for precise measurements. That's the point. I understand your *point* Harold but your response didn't answer my question . A mechanical digital mic is set with a standard & read by eye. The difference between that & a vernier mic (in my person...

Re: Mitutoyo PL-325l digital readout spares and manual
Does anyone know where I can get hold of a new stick-on membrane for this keypad with the original markings on it for all of the keys? I wish I could help but doubt if you can find anything for the older box style dro's. The scales/readers are the majority of the cost so I would search for a later ...

They made some beautiful tools. I have a very ornate combo square dividing head. I'd post a pic but when I've done it in the past, the image is too big. Too dumb to resize it I guess.gcarsen wrote: its Standard Tool Co, Athol, Mass. USA.

Re: rockwell bandsaw
I think the motor pulley is just a flat pulley the variable pulley is there but when they replaced the motor they used a regular v belt pulley. but I don't have but one speed because the v belt just rides on the inside of the top pulley. You're right about needing a flat belt, technically a 1"...

Re: Keeping it clean
[To add what Harold said, or double down.... Not really necessary. My issue is essentially the same as Harold's. It's not whether or not to use compressed air for blowing off your machines or a vac but rather defending your opinion to the point of being obnoxious. I'm not in the vacuum cleaner busi...

Re: Keeping it clean
Use your Brain.. It's this comment that caught my attention the first time. The natural assumption would be if I didn't agree with using compressed air to blow my machines off......then I wasn't using my brain? The damage caused by driving chips in to the chuck scroll alone is reason enough ...

Re: Keeping it clean
Two questions: doesn't the exhaust blow things around somewhat? I can see that having unintended consequences if one isn't careful. And how much air does it consume? Air powered tools tend to be less energy efficient than electric ones. How does it work out with oily chips? (Ok, that's 3, but I can...
