Re: Cincinnati Toolmaster X lead screw repair

That would be awesome. I’m getting more like $60 each way. The shaft weighs about 35#, so 40# with packing, 44 inches long, 3 x 3 box… UPS says 56.80 one way…. I may have to consider that, but the cheapskate in me wants to avoid shipping the shaft half way across the nation, at least for now. I may ...

Re: Cincinnati Toolmaster X lead screw repair

I will fix that now. It was an unintentional omission.

I’m in Greenville South Carolina.

The lead screw is 1.25 in diameter.

That is what I was worried about with trying to support it hat way. Plus with a hole drilled in the end and turning it down it is getting really thin. 😬

Re: Cincinnati Toolmaster X lead screw repair

Hey Bob, I did something wrong, I thought I attached pictures… typical. 🤦🏻‍♂️ I will see if I can add them here. Your summation is correct. I have buggered retaining threads. and turning them off to new threads was my goal, but the lead screw won’t fit on my 10/22 lathe, and I can’t find anyone near...

Re: Cincinnati Toolmaster X lead screw repair

Hey Rich, I apologize. It is a 36 inch table, so the lead screw is 43 inches long, with 24 inches acme threaded, and 1 1/4 diameter. The thread is 6tpi, IT does have a zero backlash nut on it, and I do have a DRO so not worried about that. I think I just need to get the threads fixed, but having tro...

Cincinnati Toolmaster X lead screw repair

Hello! Hope someone can help me out with this. I bought a Cincinnati tool master model 1, with a Bridgeport J-head rather than the original Cincinnati head... It currently lives in my garage like a millennial, just taking up room and leaving greasy stains on the floor. :(. I thought I got it for a d...

MIG welding on machinery

I have to do some repairs on the metal base of a mini mill with dro. Will careful grounding be enough to protect the electronics,,motor and dro? Or should I spend the time disassembling it all. I hate the idea of spending four hours taking those thing apart, and back together again, but it hate the ...

Re: Question about turning low tpi threads

Wow, work has tied me up for a long time! If only I didn't need the money. :? Thanks for all the great input. I did do some re-calculation on the Hob I made. I cut some gears with the spiral hob using HDPE as the medium (so I wouldn't have to harden the cutter yet), and it worked pretty well. Though...

Question about turning low tpi threads

Hey! I turned my first gear hob tonight, Mod 1 20 deg pressure angle, which calculated out as 8 tpi. I ground my cutting tool to a 40 degree point, HSS, set the compound to 20 degrees, and progressed as i have before. The material was annealed A2 steel. Things went pretty well, except that the cutti...

Re: Collet set use in Seig C6 10x22 lathe: 2 questions

Pete, Thanks for the correction. I haven't gotten out to measure the collets yet. I also intent to run my TDI on the MT3 taper of the spindle, and then on the collet chuck to see how it looks. I'll post my results. If the spindle is prototypic of the rest of the machine, the quality won't be good. T...

Re: Collet set use in Seig C6 10x22 lathe: 2 questions

Thanks guys. The Arktrade link is exactly what I was looking for. It looks like I just need to know the widest diameter of the collets. Also helps that Pete's were ER35s. I will definitely look at making a spindle nose. I'll also check the run out on the spinde, though I have put MT3 taper into the ...

Collet set use in Seig C6 10x22 lathe: 2 questions

Hello! I have a Seig C6 lathe through Grizzly (G0516), and it came with a collet set with the mill portion with a MT3 collet chuck. 1) how do I tell what type of collets these are? They look like ER30, but they don't have any nomenclature on them other than size. (either the collets, or the chuck). ...

Re: Upgrading my X2 mill: or What have I done!

Hello, there have been lots of views of this string, so I guess I will post more information. So, I ordered a replacement scale, as the original seemed terminally ill. But.... I just couldn't leave well enough along. I pulled the cable on the reworked scale back apart and tested the connectivity aga...
