Re: Mechanical Mayhem or Lathe Abuse

Hey, just be glad they didn't weld the collet adapter directly to the spindle.

ETA, that lathe looks a lot like my Jet 1024P from what I can see.

Re: Table Covers

Here is mine. Cut a groove down the center of some Oak strips and glued in some 1/4" hardboard.

Re: Fixing My Intake Manifold

Speaking of corrosion, here is one I fixed last week. 94 Ford 302. Rotten right through. http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s48/paulz463/jet%20lathe%20decals/495ad306-9439-4f25-8ae0-b195a4aa2f8c_zps18a795ff.jpg Glass bead blasted, http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s48/paulz463/jet%20lathe%20decals/...

Re: Fixing My Intake Manifold

You can chip those fittings out on the engine with a small cape chisel and run a tap in to clean out the threads. Done it many times.

Re: Using a mill to inlet?

I've done a 10/22 and a CZ 455 stock (From blanks)in my mill. Measure twice, cut once, both came out very nice.

The best tip is, clean up your dust at the end of the day. It sucks the oil right off the machines and holds moisture like crazy.

Re: Power feed gear

My Jet 1024 had the same problem, except mine was a 19 tooth gear.

I ended up making one by using a 19 tooth chain sprocket for indexing and a single point cutter on my mill. It's been going strong for 7 years now. :D

Hit the bone yards for some hood springs from a 1970s car or truck.

What he said^

You also need to back it out to remove the sliding jaw if you are disassembling the vise for whatever reason.

Re: McPherson Strut material salvage

I've salvaged material out of quite a few struts. As well as axle shafts. My paying job is a auto and truck mechanic. It's not bad to work with, most are hard on the outside and softer towards the center. Some of the bigger diameter shafts are actually hollow. The tube the piston runs in is some pre...

Re: Threading with a grizzly lathe

How to you plan to hold the tube during threading? Typical .22LR silencer tubes are 1" OD and centerfire are even bigger so none are going to fit through the headstock bore of that lathe. Not very familiar with supressors but, the bore of the chuck(s) aught to clear more than an inch. Allowabl...

I've done that more than a few times when turning machine tapers with the compound. 8)
