Re: Coles Models Holt 75 engine model

I am the fellow mentioned in an earlier reply. I have drawn a complete set of drawings from my scratch built Holt. The drawings include upgrades to the original design and have drawings for water pump, radiator and cooling system. The ignition has been changed to a Hall trigger type. The manifolds w...

Re: Powerhouse gears

If I'm not mistaken Jerry Howell's business sells the gears but if not then a good place to go is Stock Drive Products out of New York. They have a huge selection of miniature components, gears, pulleys, couplings etc.

Re: Camshaft Steel

Hi gwrdriver, I had responded to your query on another forum so didn't reply here but for others that might be interested I generally use W-1 drill rod or as it's called other places, silver steel. I don't know how the trade designations compare from here to there. I don't harden my cams but I do ha...

Re: Miniature Engines Valve Sealing

As Steve has mentioned he has done many many valves and seats and in the ideal world if the machining is accurate the valve should seal right from the start but usually that's not the case. Most of my engines have the seats and guides cut into the head (no valve cages) so I use a different approach ...

Re: New to me Logan 11" model 1955

Your cleanup is coming along great. When I got mine it was clean enough that I didn't have to do all the work you're doing. I just had to disassemble it to get it in the basement. I had a 9" Southbend previously and this one is much better although it would be nice to get a little more spindle ...

Shelly's 1/3 Woodpecker hit and miss engine

Gentlemen, I am currently building the aforementioned hit and miss engine. The drawing for the base casting doesn't have a dimension from the crank centerline to the head deck. If anyone has built one of these and has come up with a dimension that works I would certainly appreciate hearing from you....

Re: vintage motorcycle engines?

Hi Jack,
It's not really scaled from anything in particular. The bore is 1.00 and the stoke is 1.25. I would say if it were scaled from something is would be about 1/4 scale.

Re: vintage motorcycle engines?

Not in the full sized category but I designed and built my own motorcycle type engine. It's a 90 degree, air cooled, pressure oiled, overhead valve engine. I see no reason why a good machinist couldn't build a full size version. The limiting factor would be the size of equipment that a person has av...

Re: 1/6 Galloway engine

Hi Jack,
Here's several for you. At this point I just finished the build. It still needed the fuel line and the finishing of course. No sense making it look pretty until it runs properly.

1/6 Galloway engine

I just recently finished building the 1/6 Galloway engine. Everything was made to print along with the needed corrections. Now I'm trying to get it running, without much luck. The usual elements are correct, compression, ignition, timing etc. My first question is: Has anyone built one of these engin...

Re: Plans for Ford Flathead V8

Hi Jack, I have often thought of designing and making a flathead engine. The biggest problem in trying to duplicate the original is trying to get the porting snaked around the cylinders while still providing water circulation. For a scratch build the upper area of the cylinders would need to be done...
