Re: Nice Toolmakers Clamps

I use this kind of clamp all the time. One of their advantages is being able to clamp a part very close to where it will be machined. Woodworker's parallel clamps are easier to adjust, but because of the dual direction threads (left and right handed), the clamping forces are half that of a single di...

I had no idea these things were so expensive. I bought a 3 piece on eBay a few years ago, looks like I got quite a deal.

Re: Dial Indicators

Measure the post and the clamp. It's possible that you have a metric part and an imperial part. I have a couple of those Mitutoyo indicators, and mine snug up just fine.

Re: found old test indicator

1991? and i thought i had a genuine antique. And yes the tip does rotate 360 degrees. It really is a simple yet facinating action. no gears or anything just levers and a ball bearing. Yours could be an antique, I think that Starrett probably started making that indicator back in the days of Lufkin,...

Re: found old test indicator

I bought an old indicator at the flea market buck today. It was there with a bunch of junk in a box and it needed a home. Is anyone old enough to remember useing one of these things. Or have any idea how old a Starrett 564 is. I know it is just about worthless now but i have only seen these things ...

Re: Bore gauge vs pin gauges vs telescoping gauges vs hole g

I have numerous hole gauges, but one of my favorite are these made by Moore & Wright. They aren't direct reading, but they are very good for feeling the inside of a hole. I can tell if the hole is tapered, or out of round. Harvey, those look interesting. Does that style of gauge have a name? Steve I...
