Re: Best alloy for marine cam pulley..

We considered Hard Chrome also, and it may be the way we go.. I do not think a few thousandths of an inch will have any effect. We are looking to make a marine engine out of a Volkswagon Turbo Diesel. It will be about 100 hp, and should run the fishing boat to fish just fine, and not burn an inordin...

Best alloy for marine cam pulley..

I find myself tasked with making crankshaft, camshaft, and fuel pump pulleys for an automotive diesel being used in a boat. We found with a volvo gas engine that timing belt life was very short, and almost certain to fail in the dark, due to corrosion on the pulleys. Probably I will be turning down ...

No good deed goes unpunished.

So I bought a face mill, a 2" one with a R8 arbor, from Wish.com in China. It cost about $25 US to get it including shipping. It looks ok, and this eve I went out to the shop to give it a spin to see how well it worked. I already had a scrap of plate in the vise, so all I had to do was mount it and ...

Re: Power HACKSAW question

I went down town one day to buy a Right Hand brazed carbide lathe tool, and a 7x12" King bandsaw followed me home. The tool was about $7.. The saw was about $1100. Aside from complaints of some low blade quality, it is a great saw. When fabricating it is nice to make pieces fit.

Where do you guys buy Band Saw Blades?

I live in Canada, and wonder where the best place to get 93x3/4" blades is. It seems that all the ones I buy are lower quality.
Thanks

Floating Reamer Holder.

Gentlemen.... I have not chambered a barrel before, and am going to cut my teeth cutting Improved chambers in a couple bubba'd 6.5x55's. I have bought a reamer and a GO gauge, and and alignment rod and a set of pilots to align the barrel. I have the required measuring tools and will have no problem ...

Considering a DRO

Hi guys.. I watch on youtube with envy as guys machine with direct read outs, and am considering putting one one on my lathe. I am a bit pressed for space for the cross slide, as my tailstock butts right up to the side of the cross slide, and anything I put in there that added to the gap would mean ...

Re: My 12" 4 jaw has gained weight.

Lots of good ideas... I will put a 4x4 through the trusses and hang a block and tackle from it.

Re: My 12" 4 jaw has gained weight.

Yes, I should climb into the ceiling and put a 4x4 over the rafters. Really, now that I remember, I used to leave a 1" bar sticking out of it to hang onto while I am starting it on the threads. It is just a cheap chuck, I paid about $200 for it from somewhere on the web.. But it is like having a fly...

My 12" 4 jaw has gained weight.

I have not needed to put the 12 inch chuck on for years, and it is on a threaded spindle so it has the backing plate weight also.. It used to be easier.

That looks a lot like the bolt from my 71/84 mauser. It is 11mm, or .446 Cal. Mine is a repeater, the single shot one was the model 71
