Dave, thanks for the info, I came up with about the same idea, I attached an aluminium flat bar to the quill clamp to hold the reader and use a bracket as a guide for temporary fix. I like the slotted quill idea as a more permanent and sanitary fix and I have access to another mill so I have future ...

Newbie here with a problem, a newly purchased Grizz 3616 has a large amount (1/4" each way) of rotional slack in the quill when you release the quill lock. I would like to mount the Z axis scale to the front of the machine but with this amount of movement I don't think its possible with out dam...
