Re: Van Norman 7-1/2 dividing head plates

According to the Van Norman Attachments, Arbors, and Accessories catalog, the 7 1/2 Horizontal Swivel Dividing Head came with 3 plates (plus a rear mounted plate for direct indexing). Those plates provided all divisions from 1 to 50, all even divisions and multiples of 5 from 50 to 100, and some oth...

Re: Site Software Suggestions

Similar to mechanicalmagic's suggestion, I would like a "Mark forums read" on the unread posts page: http://www.chaski.org/homemachinist/search.php?search_id=unreadposts Currently I have to click on the "Board Index" link and then the "Mark forums read" link to clear ou...

Re: seal killer Cuts a Thread

(in my previous post, I said the Basic Pitch Diameter was 4.500, that should have been 0.4500) The 26th edition has the same table on page 1719. Here it is (edited, again) for 1/2-13 threads: page_1719.jpg This refers to the thread classes that Harold mentions (and, hopefully, shows what value havin...

Re: seal killer Cuts a Thread

Here's the relevant thread information from Machinery's Handbook, 26th edition (edited to just the thread at hand): half_inch_thread.jpg I don't have Machine Shop Practice Volume 1 at hand (it's at home), but I do wonder if it's got its terminology wrong? Machinery's Handbook has 4.500 as the Basic ...

http://www.ponoko.com/

I had never heard of it before, either. Looks like an interesting site.

It would be nice to just receive the parts and glue them together!

Re: How Would You Dismantle a VN #12 to Move into the Baseme

Nelson, Thanks for the link to the gallery. It will come in handy whichever way I go. The ram on mine is already off the machine. It was this way when I picked it up. The previous owner only had it for a short time, and never set it up. So, since it's partially dissassembled, I'm probably going to a...

Re: How Would You Dismantle a VN #12 to Move into the Baseme

Great. After seeing your list of things to do yet to yours, it makes me realize how much I have to do to mine. Thanks a lot. ;) I'm torn on mine between completely stripping it down and cleaning and repainting, or just cleaning it and using it for awhile. I think I'm probably going to just clean and...

Re: How Would You Dismantle a VN #12 to Move into the Baseme

Nelson, Looking good. I'm looking forward to seeing it all set up. I've got a #12 that I'm hoping to get running in a few months, and I always like looking at photos of Van Normans. I'm sorry about how things went down on the VN Yahoo group. Just remember that most of the people in the group were pr...

The way I interpreted the job he was doing was that he was not going to be doing any other turning on these pieces (at least at this step), and was just cutting them up into equal lengths using a parting tool. So, he wouldn't need to switch out tools.

Jose,

Check out the Yahoo group for the Toolmaker grinder:

Lots of good info in the files section, including a manual.

The stool turned out nice. :)

Cummins Tools is still alive (although they seem to be changing their name to World Wide Liquidators). They've still got a store on Shawnee Mission Parkway a block or two east of the Harbor Freight store, and a store on 135th street just East of I-35 in Olathe.
