Re: lapping a thread

Thanks for your replies. I could find nothing on the net about thread lapping except for lead screws in fancy machines. It worked fine for this project. But like mentioned i had the second hardened part that i could keep trying until it ran smoothly. Thanks again!

lapping a thread

I needed a special hardened bolt. So i machined it and hardened and tempered it and then polished it up. Now here is the question. To polish the threads i split a nut and put the thread in that nut and then ran it back and forth with 600 lapping paste in it. Then i clamped the split nut in a vise an...

Re: Cylindrical Square update Video online

I followed your lead and bought two Caterpillar wrist pins. May be luck or lack of skills but i do not have anything that can find any need to correct the things. They came as perfect as i can measure. Thanks for the tip. I have always wanted a round square but could not cough up the high price of o...

Has anyone else followed the 18 part machining series by Dan Gepart, on Youtube. I found him quite informative and his tools are out of this world. Then i looked him up on Google. It seams that this guy has become a self made BILLIONARE all while working out of his basement tool room. Any one else h...

drill bushings

If i use a jig, and drill through an appropriate drill bushing. will a standard drill bit produce a round hole. How would such a hole compare to a reamed hole or a bored hole.

Re: Need A Little Help With Drill I.D.

I do not know where i was but they had several different types of step drills. A common one is used to drill a countersink for socket head cap screws. They are able to origionate and complete the hole. If you are using a drill to counterbore an existing hole then you do not want the pilot to cut at ...

er collets

If i already have ER collets in english (1/32) sizes. is there any reason that i should need metric collets for metric size parts. would i do alright with a 16 mm part in a 5/8" collet or should I use a 21/32 collet. OR get a metric one.

Re: watch makers jig borer, jig grinder

Yes Harold, the dials on this thing were like 5 inches in diameter. And it had some sort of micrometer viewer as well. the dove tails were massive cast iron, probabaly weighed 300 pounds, and i think it only had 150 millimeter travel. It was absolutely a beautiful piece. What does a boring tool look...
