Re: Sweet Wiliam build
Hi All, Been a super long time since I posted here, due to life/family/work etc all getting in the way I haven't done any work on my Sweet William in something like 5 or 6 years.... So over the last 5 or 6 years I've been building slowly a 7 1/4" gauge Tin Turtle (WW1 protected Simplex) which I...

Hi Karel,
A little birdie tells me you have some photos of wheel castings to share with everyone for this build?

Re: Sweet Wiliam build
Hi All, Here's a photo of how the Sweet William is now, it's been sitting on the bench under the window for around a year, I'll have to have a major clean up and find the build bench from under all the stuff my wife has "stored" in the garage/shed... Karel is busy with his own things but a...

Re: Sweet Wiliam build
Hi All, Yep I'm Ok, I haven't done much on the Sweet William for a few years as life and a young family have got in the way... I have a good friend who is working on my Cylinders & a few other bits for me and he may post an update on my behalf. Hopefully around Christmas time I well be starting ...

Re: Rebuild of an Allen Mogul.
I'd think a vacuum leak in the smokebox would do it, I've see full size locos with ash burning red hot in the smokebox because of air leaks and the leak doesn't have to be very big for it to do it. Anyway a air leak and a bit of hard work could have done it after all I think we have all seen photos ...

Re: Westinghouse 8 inch pump 1892-1897--any prototypes left?
Interesting as this pump is most likely supplied ex- Westinghouse USA but I'm not 100% sure on that. New Zealand railways had a few US built engines per 1900 with pumps for air brakes on the loco only, in 1899 there was a bad smash in the south island and the railway got told by the government to fi...

Re: Westinghouse 8 inch pump 1892-1897--any prototypes left?
Looks very much like the 8" pumps we have at my work but our ones maybe a little younger at around 1900-1910 time frame anyway here is a photo of one of the pumps ( it's not me in the photo!) By the way this is in New Zealand.

Re: Kiwi rail
I'm a member of the Christchurch live steamers but as their running days are a Sunday and I work Sundays (and I live 250km and 3.5 hours away) I get there once a year if I'm lucky! Use to be a member of the The Canterbury Society of Model and Experimental Engineers Inc (CSMEE) but give that up when ...

Hi All, Greg the Chinese are a huge market for NZ but you are here at the height of Chinese new year (Feb 17th this year) which is about the 2nd busiest time of the year for tourism in NZ. The amazing thing is the Chinese tour groups will "DO" NZ in 5 days (or less!) Day 1: fly in to Chris...

Hi All, This is Greg standing in the door of a 25 ton, 3' 6" gauge B class Climax at Shantytown, NZ. The loco is narrow gauge but Greg is standed gauge person I think! Anyway it was good to meet you & your family Greg and I'm happy that you're having a great holiday here in NZ :) Jeffrey Gr...

Re: Kiwi rail
Hi All, NZ rail (A.K.A KiwiRail) is 3'6" gauge (42 inches or 1067mm) known as "Cape Gauge" We have a mix of locos, some good old GE units that run 7FDL V12's that sound amazing for a diesel... we also have a lot of older EMD units that started life as G12's but have been rebuilt a few...
