Re: Durango and silver ton train trip advice

Thanks for all the great advice. Due to the late timing for lodging and travel plans I think I need to put more time into planning this trip. I learned of a family wedding we are attending in Seattle, june 2014. Adding this on to that trip is looking good for Reservations, flight plans, ect.... Than...

Durango and silver ton train trip advice

Hi Folks I know some of you have been out to the narrow gauge R.R. at Durango. I'm planning a trip with my wife and three kids to see it. I'd like some advice on the area, train ride and lodging from any who have experienced it. We're planning on the first two weeks of august, which ever one works o...

Planetary Gearing

Hello I have a question on planetary gearing. I would like to fabricate a planetary gear reduction pulley similar to the one I purchased 18 years ago from Dar-Jay Ind. I currently use the 7 to 1 reduction unit on my band saw and am quite satisfied with it. I wanted to put a similar unit on my Jet 83...

Re: 125psi Copper Boilers (was 7" Pipe)

Hello I have started building a 4" o.d. scotch type marine boiler using only type K copper tubing. I do not see pressing it up over 80 psi but wanted the comfort of not blowing it up. I also fitted 4 phosphor bronze stays in across tube sheets. I might put in galloway tubes and still need a method o...

Re: Converting a bandsaw from wood to metal?

Found the booklet on the Dar-Jay pull gear pully recently, will try to post it here. I had thought about trying something like this on my jet mill if I can find maybe a trans planetary gear arrangement suitable for fitting into a pully case. http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/mm181/u001jpo/P1010006....

Re: Converting a bandsaw from wood to metal?

Hi Folks I once faced the same task converting my 14" Delta Rockwell to cut metal. I found a man selling these slick little interplanetary geared three step pulleys that gave a reduction ratio of 4.5 to 1 and another at 7 to 1. They were set up with a lock pin for direct drive and a stop rod in back...

Re: OSHA Recordable

Hope you came off you're injury well Mike. We had a fella fall off a low heavy haul type trailer while unloading a spent fuel storage cask and injure his knee. They took him to the hospital to get checked out and tried to talk him into coming back in to avoid the lost time accident. Cool find Mike, I have these cabinets at work and wish I could get them. They let us take em years ago when they closed our maintnance shop, I already had good cabinets and No space for anything else. They also have a pretty solid lock system though I don't see that with yours. I guess you're like a...

Re: another crazy conrtraption

Nice Idea Mike, I did something similar with a piece of rope and a 2 x 3. I drilled a hole and cut a saddle notch in wood and tied rope were ever I could find a spot under this new turbine they put in at the plant. My drill was a milwaukee 1/2" hole shooter which has pretty good torque as evidenced ...

Re: Valve Stem Material

True, I work at various power plants and know what you mean. This last one was from a red painted valve so I believe its from our fire system. I have to watch out for those reactor water clean up valves though.
