Re: Vintage Shurline Model 1000 plus parts, please help ID p

Most of those parts a next to useless, especially all the attachments and the only smart thing to do with them is send to me for disposal. 8)

Fake steamer?

Maybe a daft idea.... but I saw the chaps running their electric (i.e. battery powered) 'electric' and 'diesel' ride on around the track today and I thought that maybe someone has made a faux steamer? I am thinking of something with a kerosene/lpg burner, boiling water and some sort of 'chuffing' de...

Re: Relative importance of a reversing switch...?

Threading dials for metric require different pinions for different thread pitch. My Chinese lathe has 3 pinions for cutting metric threads and needless to say I never use them, I reverse the spindle instead but my lathe has a camlock mount. Single phase motors (except for some specially made for lat...

Re: Aluminum Router Pantograph or Copier

I made a very simple parallalagram router copier for making panels for a product we were making at the time. I found that, as a general rule, I could get a much better result when the template was bigger than the workpiece. I made the ratio between template and workpiece to be 2.54 to 1. Using this ...

Re: Levelling a lathe

The typical Asian 12x36 lathe has six mounting points, four under the headstock and two at the tail stock end. This configuration is very challenging for the home user if he wants to fix it down.

Re: Lathe Tailstock Alignment Bar

My Drummond lathe c1908 has an adjustable head intended for turning short tapers.

I think my generic Asian 12x36 has adjustable head stock too.

Re: Splash Panel Behind Lathe Necessary?

OK, there is no problem for me to put up a back splash and even curve it over to protect the ceiling but if I am going to be flinging the coolant around like that how do I stop it falling on me?

Re: Splash Panel Behind Lathe Necessary?

John, Do you still use a splash gaurd for the lathe? Looks like it would absolutely cover the cool saw if not. Is that a concrete base you've custom made? Hi, the splashes do miss the saw and yes thats my concrete bench which wipes up quite nicely. To be frank, if there is any real splashing going ...

Re: Splash Panel Behind Lathe Necessary?

This is my approach to the situation, I cast the splash shield aside and left an open, easy to clean, space behind the lathe. Yes, the splashes do miss the cold cut saw! http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7034/6404031837_966807b231.jpg DSCN0425 by aardvark_akubra , on Flickr BTW, it is much easier to cle...
