Re: Help laying out dia. of bolt circle.

What I've got is a chevrolet turbo 350 converter, with three mounting points equally spaced. Three and six are easy. Draw your circle with a compass then without changing the compass step off marks around the circle. The chord length on a circle with 6 divisions is equal to the radius. For three bo...

Re: Help laying out dia. of bolt circle.

C = chord length (9 in your example) D = diameter of bolt circle D = C/sin(60) = 1.1547 * C = 10.392 for your example You need to divide by sin(60)=0.866.. rather than multiply. This is where my math is weak, I'll use this formula. scmods Difficult for me to lay out with a straight edge and a right...

Help laying out dia. of bolt circle.

I'm a hobbyist and a hundred years away from geometry class. I've come up with a formula for finding a bolt circle dia. out of the machinist hand book 23rd edition. Pg. 75 "lengths of cords for spacing off circumference of circles with a dia. =1." What I've got is a chevrolet turbo 350 converter, wi...

Re: chamfering engine bore

Thank you Bill
I was wondering how big/small to make that chamfer.
I hit a real snag, and tore the block back down.
I found grit in two lifter bores,I guess my two cleanings weren't good enough.
So while its down I'll get the die grinder out.
Thanks for the help guys

Re: chamfering engine bore

LOL you guys are funny, I'm a hobby guy. To build the tool with out a mill would be tough. At my age I might not get the car put back together. But my ridge breaker could be modified to behave like a valve seat cutter, I think. How ever I'm headed to NAPA for lint free rags and tape. Think I'll try ...

Re: chamfering engine bore

Tell me the bore diameter. There are tools for that. They affix to the ... well, tell us the bore. They act like a valve seat refaceing tool. It started out as 4.00" Now 4.030" , the old pistons wouldn't do. I would like to see the tool made to bevel large holes, wouldn't buy one for a one time use...

Re: chamfering engine bore

I wouldn't recommend that engine builder to anyone. How can you forget to do something like chamfering those cylinder bores. Stuart I wont be passing out his cards. I have one tip that doesn't swivel, it's worked the best. This is for my hot rod, don't mind taking the time to do it by hand. I do ha...

chamfering engine bore

I had my machinist deck and bore an engine block, he forgot to chamfer the top. The rings wont go in with out it. He told me he uses a hand held edge breaker. Deburing tool with the tips that swivel. Which I have. The guy who is guiding through this rebuild, said to turn the engine upside down, on t...
