Re: GS-1 Tender, finishing up the hard way
Hey Donald, If your little air line object is like the one on my full size maintenance project, its a filter/water separator and the valve is a way to blow it down. There should be a paper strainer inside that acts as a water trap to remove water from the air, letting it collect in the bottom. Every...

Re: Looking to gauge the 3/4" scale market out there!
Happy to see the different and receptive responses so far! Bill, That is one reason I am waiting on the new order! I changed the coupler knuckle design and need to test it. The plan is to have the two couplers together and jerk one side really fast and see what a strain gauge reads. If they break, I...

Re: shapeways casting from hell
Surprised no one suggested migrating to fine threads. Use a 6-40 thread (and lots of cutting oil). Yes, the taps are more expensive and harder to find, but that fine thread will be immensely easier to cut in difficult places. You will probably have to custom make studs and nuts too, but that also is...

Re: Sanding the Flues
Ok, cool! I cant say my american can do the same.
I still need to do my steam trip to the west some day in the future, Ive always wanted to and would definitely like to see the small mikado. I have always had a strange addiction to the 2-8-2 wheel arrangement!

RN,
What type of locomotive was that with the strong draft!? The draft gets really strong on our k class locomotive, but never strong enough to pull a cup out of my hand

Keeying a wheel
How do you key a wheel? I know how to make a slot in the end of the axle, but how do you make the slot in the wheel hub?

Has anyone digitized the Model Engineering construction series for the Columbia? I have all of the ME issues for the build, but it would be nice to have the digital file on my computer will all of my other ones instead of having to carry the individual issues around with me
