Welcome to my home state. My brother lives in Ft Calhoun, we meet up about once a year for family reunion's.
I like the idea of a containerized shop.

Re: (Sigh) This is most likely pointless
How about an index? Not a new forum, just an index that has been stickied in one forum. Lock it so only one page is shown & have the mods add content. Could be divided into different topics, such as: 1. Lathe facing 2. Milling a slot 3. Building a firebox 4. How to add trucks under a rail car Th...

Re: Anyone tried a CDCO milling machine vise?
I have a 6" from CDCO on my Enco mill. As the mill is a round column mill/drill, it's really too big. When I bought it, I had mixed recommendations for the 4" & 6", so I bought the largest I could & ended with the 6". I have no problems with it. I took off the swivel plat...

Re: Ball Turner for Atlas 10 in Lathe
I made one similar for my 12x36 Craftsman lathe, sans the titanium handle. Used the center bolt to hold the two pieces together too. No plans just eyeballed everything & it works great. I do have to re-make it though, I want to use 3.5" steel rod instead of a 3" piece. And make the bit...

Re: Show us your milling machine!
yes. I lined up the vertical bar to the column, then tacked the arms to the crank bracket. Took the crank bracket & vertical bar off, lined everything up on the welding bench & welded it solid. Put it back on & it worked.

Re: Show us your milling machine!
Yes, the flat plates are just clamped to the column. I used a 1/4" bolt & 1/2" flat strap to hold it in place. It doesn't move once clamped tight. The beauty of this is, if a guy wants to move the head to the side, just loosen the clamps & swing the head. Everything swings as a uni...

Re: Show us your milling machine!
My Enco mill with an alignment brace fitted to it. It keeps the mill head aligned with the table. Nice! How closely does it keep register? Harold Harold, just saw this today, When I crank the head down, it's spot on. when I crank it up, it's off about .003. A light tap with the plastic mallet, it's...

Re: Anyone using a variable frequency drive phase converter
I have a TECO on my mill. I can slow it down to around 75hz or run it up to 200hz. Depending on the pulley arrangement, I can run it as slow as 15 rpm or as fast as 3000 rpm. Current set up puts the speed from 90 rpm to 1945 rpm. Once I read the manual on the CD, it was fairly easy to set up. Mine i...

Re: Gear cutting
I made some gears out of aluminum on the lathe. To index the blank, I made a pie chart in Excel, then blew it up to fit on some cardboard. Then a simple pointer to the line I was able to cut out the gears with a single point cutter & my milling attachment. It was slow going, not perfect either, ...

Re: Mounting 4 jaw
What does the back of the chuck look like? Is it flat & you could get a regular adapter that you could drill different holes in & bolt the 4 jaw to the adapter? I wouldn't use something like this the way it's set up. It would be almost impossible to get it set up correct. Better option is sa...
