Re: Wilton 1208 drill press vise
I think warranty periods carry some financial liability that must be carried on the books. when the knowlege of the inferiority of the product exists that liabilty becomes a major concern. It is truly a sad state. There were times when the production of a superior product would justify the cost . B...

Re: Wilton 1208 drill press vise
I'd say the vise, so far, seems about 75% to 80% of the US model, but AT THE OLD US PRICE AND ONLY A TWO YEAR WARRANTY . ... My point is, if this vise is every bit as good as the old US model, why not give it the lifetime warranty? I've NEVER seen one of the old US vises break, NEVER. That tells me...

Re: Wilton 1208 drill press vise
Can you give us some insights as to the vise's quality, fit & finish? The slide bars on the vise (the three rods that the movable jaw slide on) appear to be as well finished as the US made unit, of equal size but the hardness is unknown. I'm not going to take a file to the new vise to see how h...

Wilton 1208 drill press vise
A word of warning for anyone that has their heart set on a Wilton 1208, 8 inch drill press vise. They are now made in Taiwan, not the USA. Wilton does not state WHERE they are made on their website. They no longer carry the lifetime warranty, just a two year warranty, and the usual high price of abo...

Re: Grizzly DRO's and power feed
This is an option for you to consider. The 'scales' can be cut by the user to fit exactly the machine you have. I have no personal experience with the vendor but when funds allow they are on my short list. http://www.star-techno.com/ Pete That seems really nice. My only concern would be if I mounte...

Re: Lathe Mounting
I guess if the belt speed is held down it would. First I would check for a lumpy belt, next a bent shaft or shafts and third bent pulleys.stevec wrote:flute, I was surprised too. But, amazingly they do reduce vibrations some and handle smaller dia. pulleys too.

Re: Quality of this keyless chuck?
Flutedchamber, Yeah "exceptional" doesn't really give you a hard and fast number to check them to. I've also seen exceptionally good and exceptionally bad. Pete Pete, I have found when a manufacturer uses words to describe their products accuracy instead of numbers it always means they ar...

Re: Quality of this keyless chuck?
I prefer a keyed older (made in USA) Jacobs chuck. But..that's just me.
The interesting thing with Grizzly is in their product descriptions. I never could figure out how many thousandths is in one "exceptional."

I would have thought the link belt would cause MORE vibrations.

Re: Spanner Wrench
Two 1/8 or 3/16 roll pins would have worked fine. Plenty of strength. There are a lot of different ways to skin this cat.
Fine job.

Re: Worn pin holes in drill chuck
I agree about the Jacobs chucks..at least the older units. The new Jacobs chucks are now made in CHINA and the quality is nowhere near as good. Typical Chinese lack of quality. If the chuck has the numbers and name acid etched on it the chuck is made in China. This was told to me when I called Jacob...
