Mogul vs Chloe throttle

I'm building a mogul that is loosely designed after the Allen mogul, using the Allen drawings. I've seen pictures and drawings of the Chloe throttle and I kind of like it better but I'm wondering if anybody has experience with both types and can comment on them. Also, would the Chloe throttle accomm...

Re: C-30 wood caboose

Around here the crackheads would consider the fence as a bonus when they scrap the caboose.

Re: Help identify these trucks

True Scale-to-gage for 1 1/2" scale equipment would actually be 7 1/16" (7.0625). Maybe they were built long ago before there were any real standards, and were intended to go on track that was closer to 7", or true scale. Maybe, but the builder was dead on with every other measuremen...

Re: Help identify these trucks

I don't know how long scale rivets have been available to the hobby but the rivets on these are actually brass screws and nuts. The screw head is on the hidden side and then the nut has been ground into a semi-spherical head. It looks like they must have had a tool to do this and they are all perfec...

Re: Help identify these trucks

Dick, The wheels are 4-1/8" over the tread and 33" is correct for the prototype. I have a set of drawings for these trucks and everything on them is very detailed and scaled out to a perfect 1.5" to the foot, except the gauge, so the builder must have been conforming to the gauge of a...

Re: A Test Fire on Recycled Engine Oil.....

I can say that I have fired and run a couple different full size locomotives being fired on both #2 diesel and used motor oil at different times. Never had a problem with the diesel but every time the fuel was used motor oil I had a killer headache by the end of the day.

Re: Help identify these trucks

Well, now that I have these in my possession, it turns out that they are actually 6-3/4" gauge.

Re: Help identify these trucks

I'm wondering, is there any chance that 7" gauge was the hobby standard in the late 19th or early 20th century? But then I also wonder, the wheels look to be aluminum which would indicate that they weren't intended to be run much, could they have been a salesman sample or corporate display? Jeff

Help identify these trucks

I just bought these trucks. They are a model of a Pressed Steel Car Co. archbar truck. The original bolsters are missing and have been replaced with the oxide red pieces. The seller said that he bought them in the 1950's and that they were already beat up at that time so they are likely very old. Al...

Re: Couple plumbing questions (whistle & injector)

I'm curious, do most clubs have regulations requiring a functioning whistle and, if so, would a scale sized whistle cover the requirement? I'd be specifically interested to know what LALS and Riverside require.
