Has anyone tried dried shelled corn? I have a boiler that heats my shop that runs on shelled corn. Burns very hot. It does make some ash and will clinker if left to smolder. I may experiment with it once I get a locomotive going with grates in it.

I use 1/4" x 3/4" flat bar with 1/8" x 1" welded to the bottom to tie it together. I then screw ties to the track panels. My track was built by Lawn Tracks and I have been happy with it for the most part. He also built my switches. I run on the ground and ride on a flat car behin...

Looking at your setup, assuming you started with tubing, not a solid piece, it's entirely possible that the finished sleeve isn't going to be round due to chucking pressure.
