Re: Practice Material For The Clueless?
If I go to a couple of local machine shops and get some of the material out of their scrap bins for a few bucks, is there a way to tell what kind of metal it is short of buying some high priced gadget?

Re: Name that machine
By the way I picked up this machine for $1100.00 used from a seal manufacturing company. They told me that they only used it for cutting plastic.

Re: Novice with lathe problem
I have noticed that the compund is binding up. It's acting like the jib is to long (I know this isn't the case). But when I put the jib in and hold it there and then try to wheel in and out it starts to get REALLY hard to wheel out, even if I have the jib pulled out past the screw limit it still get...

Re: Novice with lathe problem
Just a note that I do like the brass shim "U" idea but I'm not sure that my skills are up to snuff yet. Would I press it in?

Re: Novice with lathe problem
Thanks for all the replies. I do not know how to make threads, thats actually what I was working on when I discovered that the compund was not working. So I think I will try SteveM's idea....slightly. If I mill out the slot on the gib and modify some washers or a spacer with about a 10mm tit on it t...

Re: Novice with lathe problem
Harold, Thanks for the welcome. The screw head does not engage the gib properly. It looks like the slot in the gib have been rounded off on the corners that the screw touches. It will engage the gib slightly when turning the screw in but when I back off the screw it seems to slip over the gib. So I ...

Name that machine
Hi There,
I have a used machine that I am trying to find a manual for. I googled it but I have a feeling that these machines are no longer being made. If anyone has any leads, that would be great!
Thanks
Wade

Novice with lathe problem
Hi guys and gals, This is my first post, and first lathe but be ready for a lot of questions once I start moving some chips. I purchsed a used lathe and I'm having problems with the compund rest. It is extremely hard to turn the hand wheel. I took it apart and noticed that there is a shim that has w...
