Re: Power feed gear

John you go me thinking.... Wholesale Tools is only about 10 minutes from me. I took my broken gear in and they just happened to have one!!!! $40, I couldn't pass on that. So now I have the parts needed to fix my auto feed. Thank you every one for the advice on making one, and thank you again John E...

Re: Power feed gear

Thanks for stopping by John, I really appreciate you going out if your way to have a look. when it goes back together I'm defiantly replacing the roll pins, I think aluminum will be best. The soft sheer pins may lower the heavy cutting ability of my lathe, but its also not the most robust machine so...

Re: Power feed gear

The whole story on the lathe is that one of my works customers was using it in there shop. My boss was contacted buy them wanting to know if he wanted the lathe, they said it needed some work. He got it from them for a good price (I think it was "what ever you want to give us, or just scrap it&...

Re: Power feed gear

It's defiantly a 17 tooth gear. Thank you for the info on hobbing the worm wheel. Unfortunately my lathe is disassembled for this repair, and I have no mill (yet) to make a new part with. There are roll pins that connect the auto feed shaft and the threading screw to the gear box. when I put it back...

Re: Power feed gear

I really appreciate all of the info every one has given me. As I said I'm very green with machines, so a lot of what you said Hopefuldave doesn't make sense to me. Here is how it was setup on the lathe (the screw driver is where the auto feed shaft went through. http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c72...

Re: Power feed gear

It has 17 teeth. The shaft is 14mm or .554, measuring from the I.D. to the top of a tooth it is 8.32mm or .377. O.A.L. is 24mm or .95. I wasn't able to get a good measurement from the I.D. to the root of the gear, they seem to be a bit cobbled. Thank you for your response.

Power feed gear

Hello every one. I have a Dar Sin 1237gh lathe in my garage. In my infinite stupidity I accidentally ran the cross slide out too far while using the power feed. This resulted in me destroying the brass power feed worm gear. I am about as green at machines as they come, but I want to learn. http://i2...

Re: Centering a Round Work Piece in a Four Jaw Chuck

sk1nner-- That is the same method as the one I found at littlemachineshop.com. However, the video you posted adds a second chuck key, which would be of great help! Thanks! --Bill it seems to be the "best" way ive seen. lucky for me my 3/8 T-handle (for sockets) works great as a second chu...

Re: Centering a Round Work Piece in a Four Jaw Chuck

this is how Ive learned to center in a 4 jaw.

with the addition of a second key you can loosen one jaw while you take the extra room up with its opposite one.
