Re: Beginners question on ID threads

I don't know of any limitations of the Jet 1340 lathe but I'd say yes. Work turning in reverse, tool not inverted. Picture a 2 or 4 flute tap entering the piece rotatning forward. The cutting edge facing you would be inverted and the opposite would but not inverted. Now reverse the lathe and the re...

Can I cut right hand inside threads with a Jet 1340 lathe with the carriage moving toward the tail stock with the tool bit on the opposite side of the work from the operator and with the bit not inverted?

Re: Stock Woes

Update on the stock is I fitted the stock Remington action removed from the Mc Millian stock and it seems to fit with no problem. At this point I believe the BC stock is OK and the problem was I did not enlarge the barrel channel enough to accommodate the custom barrel which differs from the stock ...

Re: Stock Woes

Actually, I use shims of paper stacked to the proper height/thickness to get the barrel centered AND to get the action setting level in the stock. The rear screw keeps that end where it needs to be, then stack shims so the action doesn't tip forward and does not have a gap at the front. I hope I'm ...

Re: Stock Woes

Whether it's a B&C or a HS Precision or any other, I believe they all need to be bedded. I worked on one like you have for a friend, and yes, I removed some of the stock material that squeezed past the bedding block, relieved the forearm area for barrel clearance. Once that is all done, I do a ...

Stock Woes

Purchased a Bell and Carlson tactical stock with the aluminum block from Stockys recently. At first inspection the workmanship looked poor with residual composite material at the bottom of the recoil lug recess and the necessity of enlarging the barrel channel to make the heavy varmint barrel fit. N...

Re: Milling machines

Rob, I have had the small Clausing machine and now own a Burke Millrite. The Millrite is a significantly larger machine and I prefer that. I found the Clausing to be small enough to be easily moved by simply manhandling it whereas with the Millrite I use a prybar. The Clausing also has a 110 volt mo...
