Badly worn saddle ways on Chevalier surface grinder
Hi fellas, Hope every one is doing well. I need some advise on a surface grinder I bought recently, the spindle seems ok , no noise or slop, but the saddle shows excessive wear. If you put an indicator on the table (with the chuck removed), pushing the saddle away from you, the indicator will drop o...

Re: Bandsaw question
Hi Steve , I tried to down size some pics. but We got a new computer since the last time I posted any and I can't seem to down size them. I used to do in "paint". Can anyone tell me what the lower clamp for the blade welder is made of? The upper body is bronze but the lower appears to be c...

Re: Bandsaw question
Hi fellas , I picked up the DoALL on Monday and went over it and wired it through a VFD , it seems to work O.K. It came with guides for 3/8 and 1/2' blades, each blade width requires a different set of guides. The guide holders will accept guides for 1/16 to 1/2" blades, if you want to use 5/8 ...

Re: Bandsaw question
Hi fellas, I went to Machinery Value in Harrison NJ today and these guys were very accommodating considering they make deals on machines worth over 100 times what I spent there today. they powered up the old DoALL ML and it sounded kind of rough, the Reaves drive was jumping a little and I Knew some...

Re: Bandsaw question
I saw a good close up picture of the blade guides recently and if memory serves it said "3/16-1/4" on it. Maybe you need a whole set of them to use 1/8" to 1" blades. they look like you could make them easily enough, if you had to. Planning on going to look at one on Monday, I'll...

Re: Bandsaw question
That's good info Russ, thinking about it, I probably got the idea that the ML was limited to 1/2" blades from one of the saw descriptions rather than a parts manual. Can't go to look at the saw till vacation in may, too far to travel on a work day and they aren't open on Saturday. hopefully it ...

Re: Bandsaw question
Hi Russ,
What model Doall do you have? I thought I read in the ML manual that it was only able use up to a 1/2" blade if changing the guides would acommodate a wider blade it might be well worth the bother for resawing operations.

Re: Bandsaw question
Hi fellas, Thanks for the replies. I noticed the 17" grizzly wood working bandsaws have 2 speeds 3500 and 1700 I think, they will accept up to 1" blade width, the Doall accepts up to 1/2' wide blades. if the 1700 FPM speed is primarily for resawing then I would think the Doall at 1600 FPM ...

Bandsaw question
Hi folks, I was wondering about FPM for resawing Boards on a band saw. There is a 16" Doall ML for sale and although it would be used mostly for metal work I would also use it ocationally to resaw. The old craftsman band saw in the wood shop never was up to the task. The ML has 2 speed ranges l...

Re: Trav-a -dial
I see you mounted yours on the right side of the carriage. I considered that but thought it would be annoying to look back and forth from the tool to the dial. However when using the face plate on my lathe the Trav-a-dial bracket will hit the feed gearbox, requiring me to use creative compound/toolp...
