Cattail Foundry Match Plate Dimensions Cast Iron

Hi All,

I gave the guys in Gordonville a ring, but I figured I should ask here as well. Does anyone know these dimensions? Please let me know. Thanks again.

Shay Tender Side Sheets

Hi All, I'm in the midst of fitting/cleecoing the side sheets of my tender. It's made from 14 ga mild steel, photos attached. I'm fairly close with the location, but realize I won't get a true fit with then rivet straps in the way. Part of me says to start riveting up, as I know were the ends of the...

Re: Filler material recommendations

Update: I ran some TIG beads to fill in the gap, all set..best course of action would've been to clamp it right the first time

Re: Filler material recommendations

Hi fred,

Absolutely..I underestimated the potential movement even with glorified tracks.

Harold, I'll try to grab some pics if I go to my club later, but the weather is kind of crappy right now. The 1/8 angle iron sits right at the edge of the 14ga steel bottom

Filler material recommendations

Hi all, I recently stitch welded some 1/8 angle iron to my tender body base to rivet my side sheets too. The material is 14 ga steel. The angle iron moved in a bit when I tacked it, so I'm looking to use some filler material to get the edge surface back. Would JB weld be good for this? It will need ...

Re: Cast Iron Steam Water Pump

Bill,

Sounds like I might want to upgrade myself to cast iron piston rings..I'm a little leery about the pressed in sleeve.

Re: Cast Iron Steam Water Pump

I'm thinking if I send them out to get honed to size, I'll be ok to go the o-ring route?

Cast Iron Steam Water Pump

Hi All, Fairly recently I picked up a set of iron LE castings for their 2.5/3 inch scale water pump. The plans call for o rings to be used on both sides of the pump. I'm a little worried that even with the right bore finish, the cast iron material will wear out the o rings prematurely (with dedicate...

Re: Best way to pin Stephenson eccentrics

Hi All, Thanks for the responses. I'm leaning towards the dimple and two setscrew method. This is on a Shay loco, so I have better access than usual. I already have one setscrew per eccentric. I'm guessing I drill a new hole with a marked drill bit, tap using a spiral point to get rid of the chips a...

Best way to pin Stephenson eccentrics

I've finally accepted the fact that the eccentrics will keep slipping until I pin them to the crank shaft. Is a roll pin sufficient to keep everything in place?

Re: Temporary tender tank

Hi All,

Thanks for the suggestions, this gives me plenty of ideas.

Marty, how thick is the material you used on your tank?
