Re: Petermann P4 sliding head automatic lathe (aka screw machine)
Ha, I've actually got 2 different manuals for the B&S ones. I'd prefer one of those machines but the price for this one was unbeatable and right around the corner. I'm just dipping my toes into the screw machine pond so see if I like it or not.

Re: Petermann P4 sliding head automatic lathe (aka screw machine)
I actually went there first and came up empty. The manual is available on Lathes.co.uk but is a bit pricey. Thought I'd search for a free one first

Petermann P4 sliding head automatic lathe (aka screw machine)
I know this is a stretch but I picked up a Petermann p4 screw machine yesterday and was curious if anyone had a manual they'd be willing to share.
The guards were removed for transport but yes, I have them

Could be! I didn't realize that it had a purpose. It says it gives a slight radial relief on the thread.

Re: What are these kind of taps called?
I'm tapping on a CNC mill with a tapping head. It's a tension/compression style so the motor reverses to get it out.

Re: What are these kind of taps called?
Thanks for the responses thus far. I understand that it's a bottoming tap both by the general shape and by the number of tapered threads leading in. It's the tapered threads above the threaded portion that I thought would have special name and knowing that name might make it easier to locate. Perhap...

What are these kind of taps called?
See the picture below. The add lists them as this Thread Limit H3, 3 Flute, Oxide Finish Vanadium High Speed Steel Spiral Flute Tap Modified Bottoming Chamfer, Right Hand Thread, Right Hand Flute, 2-1/2 OAL, 6.477mm Diam, Class 3B No problem. Question is, the threads appear to taper off after the 4t...

Re: Making a lockable aluminum box
Man, bummer. Those are worth a fortune. That Lowlight Ghia is worth some cash too. I had a 59 that was in terrible shape but even at that I sold it for 1k and a guy came from the opposite coast to get it. Crazy dude.

Re: CNC Router for Aluminum Machining?
I worked at a shop that made large architectural signs. They had at least 6 CNC routers that could hold 8' x 20' sheet stock and they ran them in three shifts just to keep up with production. They cut mostly 0.090" and 0.125" sheet but I know they've cut 1/2" when they need to. Parts ...

Making a lockable aluminum box
I noticed that this section of the forum hadn't had any posts since July so I thought I'd show a project I did earlier this year. It's a lockable storage box for under the seat of my VW bus. It's 0.090" alumium. I made it in my garage and it's a little tight in there so please don't judge me to...
