Re: Has someone plan-ahead-designs Shay drawings?
I have a set of Plan Ahead Designs WM6 plans that I would be willing to sell, send a PM if interested. As for the Bill Harris 2-1/2" scale Mich-Cal those plans are sold by Ken Hemmelgarn see here for some old info: https://www.chaski.org/homemachinist/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=106017&p=38269...

Re: Has anyone built a "New" Shay in 7 1/2" ?
Todd- You should also take a look at the Locogear Shay, which is the Western Maryland #6, still operating at Cass. Much larger than a Schroeder (Allen) Shay. 10" boiler in 1-1/2" scale. The WM6 is a 160 ton Shay. I hope to build both the WM6 and the Greenbrier, Cheat & Elk #12 4 truck ...

Re: Has anyone built a "New" Shay in 7 1/2" ?
Don't recall seeing a "New" Shay in 7-1/2. I built the original Kozo Shay in 7-1/4, then made it dual gauge. At the time I chose the Kozo Shay over the Schroeder (now Allen) Shay because I was not confident I could machine the castings. So I started out with the Kozo Shay and later realize...

Re: Help Identifying 7.5” ga. Shay parts
Looks like someone's interpretation of an older Shay without the crankcase. May be some Kozo influence there, but they are definitely not scaled up from his "Building the Shay" plans. What is the Shay crankcase casting with crankshaft in the background of the truck photo? Doesn't quite loo...

Re: Logging Disconnects
I've seen pictures where the disconnect trucks were coupled together by a piece of railroad rail pinned in place. Food for thought. RussN Some logging railroads called that a "rooster". At the EBL in New Hampshire the roosters were made of wood with metal ends. I am going to modify my met...

Re: Pump o-rings
Kozo Hiraoka wrote a very good article on o-ring usage. His premise was that the commercial o-ring guides make the o-rings fit too tight for live steam models. He offered tables for o-ring use of both metric and imperial sizes. A very good guide. It was published in Live Steam magazine and may also ...

Re: Looking for Information Bill Van Brocklin engines in Hawaii
Hello Glenn- I did a search for the seller and found his obituary from 2016. I do remember him mentioning another live steamer in Hawaii but we are too late to get that info. -Larry Larry, I am curious. Do you recall any details of your purchase - the approx year, location, etc. From time to time, I...

Re: 730 Gets a Boiler
I had rust from the steel manifold clog the burner slots in two of my Locoparts burners. This took 12 years to accumulate. Easily cleaned after dropping the manifold and unscrewing the caps from the burners. I removed all the burners and cleared the loose rust out of the manifold then reassembled. N...
