Re: slot chisel

I would mount the piece in my lathe, lock the spindle, and use a boring bar to slot.

Re: Decimal Minute timer - applications

No question on why decimal minutes. But why would a company build an analog timer that only counts up to one decimal minute? In what application could it have been used? I cannot find any example of a timer that is limited like this - all the ones I find have a minute hand. I will be happy to have a...

Decimal Minute timer - applications

I acquired an analog table-top timer with a single hand and dial that is graduated in 1/100 of a minute with numbers counting 10, 20, 30, ..., 100, so you can time events lasting up to one decimal minute. One lever will reset the hand and the other will start/stop the timer. This is a "normal&q...

Re: Spitball value of this box?

This was a local guy's 36 year career box. He's retiring soon and tossed it out there. The pics are of the most valuable drawers and I ran through each tallying up what I thought. He was firm $3k and I kept coming up a bit short. There is that common issue now with lots where, yeah, don't need every...

This topic inspires me to purchase the 25 piece ER32 collet set, and couple blocks, and might as well toss in the lathe face plate, and practice my grinding...

Why don't you adopt a dog from a machinist?
As soon as you get home he will make a bolt for the door.

I'm a machinist because engineers need hero's too.

Re: Bad Jokes

A machinist buys a brand new Corvette, he gets home and parks it under a tree. He comes out the next morning to see his shiny new car covered in bird potty. He looks up and sees all manner of birds in the tree above. Angry, he hatches a plan. He spreads birdseed all over his lawn, his car, his house...
