Re: Newbie Looking for giddiness

My first though this morning was that was good thinking for 8-1 but not for 30-1 Then I read your post. I was using grade school math I had forgot that Pi thing. I will go back to the drawing board. Maybe increase the size of the big pulley say to 5.5 inches make it a wheel use the o ring as tread r...

Re: Newbie Looking for giddiness

I did not do the math when I made the drawing.I was thinking the 3/8-10 acme would be moving in and out any way so put a pulley on lt and haft the problem is solved. Make that a 4 inch pulley and a 1/2 inch drive pulley with the o ring drive belt. The finished part is a little over 1/2 inch long mak...

This came to mind. Both pulley and drive wheel would move in and out together. just have to figure out pulley size to get 30 to 1 ratio

Re: Newbie Looking for giddiness

As I said in the beginning I have a small that is SMALL 3 in 1 Its just a little bigger than the old NUMAT. I can't find a name on it so I guess finding part will be a nightmare. Any way I just checked on RPM and 2500 is tops on the lath and the mill does that mean I need to start looking to farm ou...

Re: Newbie Looking for giddiness

Thanks for your 2 cents. I will work on doing away with the hand crank maybe replace it with a worm drive of some kind. I'm not suer I understand your suggestion about the two nuts and spring. Do you mean to use nuts instead of threading the fixture itself ? would you elaborate on that a little. Due...

Re: Newbie Looking for giddiness

What are you making it out of? How big is it? No doubt it would be simple to replicate with a 4 or 5 axis CNC machine and in the past there were all sorts of mechanical gear making machines that could advance and rotate the workpiece simultaneously. But given the limitations of a 3-in-1 machine, my...

Re: Newbie Looking for giddiness

For some reason, I can barely make out your drawing -- it's very faint and very small. It looks like it might be a worm, rather than a gear? I think you can cut those in the same manner as cutting a thread. You would have to grind a form tool the right shape, and you would have to figure out the pi...
