Re: Should I grab this shaper?

See "This Old Tony" on youtube for uses. How many broaches can you buy for 500? Can you say dove tails, crosshead? Interesting that a shaper is considered obsolete yet you are modeling a machine who many think it is obsolete. There is a quote about shapers "what can you make with a sh...

Thanks Bill
I'm sure your stuff is way over my head, its hard enough with the 3 axes, I'd like to hook up the 4th ax at some point. No matter how you spell the beer in German or American I can barely write a good program as it is without the beir!

Re: Milling s part for PRR K-4 4-6-2-Heindenhain

Thanks Bill ! You do me a great honor. 4 years ago I bought one of 3 Shizuoka machines being offered on ebay the others had Bandit Controllers. Because of your praise of Heindenhain and also talking to the guys at Heindenhain, I found out that the TNC310 was still one of the older controllers being ...

Re: K-4 Smokebox Detail

Wish I was that far along. Whos smoke box casting is that or did you make it from scratch? Very nice. Don't you have a builders blue prints such as Moore or Mercer? I posted a GN nozzle print a few days back if that might help....

Re: Milling s part for PRR K-4 4-6-2-Heindenhain

I assume you meant milling out ??, at first I thought this was some new slang the kids use:} Yes I was milling the exhaust passage way for the steam chest cylinder valve. The rest of the pieces I received already machined. The original creator did a great job on the rest of the steam chest you saw b...

Milling s part for PRR K-4 4-6-2-Heindenhain

I was finally able to run a program, which allowed me to do something other than break bits. Its not the latest model or the best but thought Mr Shields might like it :)

Re: reversing lever notch spacing

Steve You say your working on Baker valve gear, well my hat is off to you because baker is usually found on the later steam engines like Berks and such, it is considered better than Walschaert by many. Looking in my favorite book again, I find its explanation about lap and lead is better under the B...

Re: reversing lever notch spacing

let me quote from a book I really dont like its diagrams moving from direct to indirect valve motion then showing out side admission slide valves etc any way this is how they describe lap and lead. " A steam engine cannot be operated economically unless provision is made for moving the piston b...

H Series GN 4-6-2 Valve cage Blue Print

Since I joined the Chaski I've been trying to think of a way to at least contribute something, other than my opinion. So my building of a PRR K4 is slow and not much to show. But going through some blue prints that have been stored in a attic. I finally have an area to really look at them. A flat be...
