Shop Task 3in1 machines Looking for fellow Shoptask owners
This was a very old topic from Dec 2007. Revived, where are all the Shop Task owners? And yes it is a lathe, mill and drill all in one. Where are all those machines? I bought mine on September 1993. I wanted a machine that had some capabilities and for the price I could not touch a good machine for...

Re: Millrite vertical mill
The machine pictured is a United States Manufacturing Model “MV”. You can get a manual from the Yahoo group. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/BurkeMills/files/Vertical%20Mills/ You must be a member to excess the files. United States Manufacturing sold out many years ago and were bought up by Burke. The...

Looking at that carbide tool, I would throw the whole bunch away or take them back. But the tool is sticking out a little bit far. I try to keep my tool as close to the post as possible.

Re: New South Bend lathes
I do not understand all the bad mouthing South Bend. You say they had their nitch, well I guess they did. But that has nothing to do with quality. Their machines are able to stand for 100 years and some are still doing very well. The craftmanship is above all machines. And yes they had their bigger ...

Re: I'd like your opinion on this Southbend 9x30
There is a goverment auction, they have one in Oregon. The bid is a wopping $85. If you are near, well maybe it what you are looking for. The lathe looks to be in fair shape but can be brought back to the beautiful machine they are. http://gsaauctions.gov/gsaauctions/aucitdsc/

mrlucmorin I found this lathe here on this forum, might be worth looking at and I do not know if he still has it or not. By the way he wants $500 for it and it is a South Bend looks to be a heavy 12 or 14. A good size machine. http://www.chaski.org/homemachinist/viewtopic.php?f=42&t=93872 Nelson...

Re: I'd like your opinion on this Southbend 9x30
I bought my 10K "A" Model for $300. They are out there hold onto your money till a good one comes up. Start look on Craigs List in your area. There was a 9A in south Florida the fella took $500. I can not say look at E-Bay because the prices are much higher. As far a $1000 compaired to a C...

Re: Can't wrap my mind around it?
If you go grinding on the chuck with out preloading the chuck, you will never have a precision chuck. You will need a disc with a circle in the middle and three in a larger radius to fit the jaws. Do not cut or grind unless under a load.

Re: Another Newbie--Brands of Lathes(new)
the first thing you are going to need to answer, how big of a lathe will it take to do what you want to do? then save up your money until you have enough to buy what you need. $3000 is not going to buy very much of a lathe. some of the mini lathes go for that with no tooling.

Collet Chuck?
I am thinking about making a collet chuck and would like input from some that know. What would be the better of all the collets out there to use? I know the jap stuff is not the answer I'm looking for. I am also looking for the range of .0625 to 1.25 inch. Do some collets hold better than others? Ne...
