Re: Tender Tank

I used 20 gauge CRS for the tender of my little 0-6-0 switcher. It has a custom-made plastic insert tank with a baffle. The tank holds about 13 gallons or so. This relieves me of all the corrosion-related maintenance issues and no peeling tank sealer to deal with. Another benefit is the open side le...

Re: Stainless Steel Arch for my RGS 20

Just a newbie question... Was there a specific reason for using stainless for this application? I have been considering an arch for my LE 0-6-0...

Re: Godshall's Challenger Photos June 2013

Wow. A lot has been done since my last visit! Not sure if that isn't mostly due to me not being able to get up there as often as I would like! :-)

She is a real work of art.

Re: Steam to the rescue

The videos would have been all the better without my big head blocking the camera the whole time! That was a great day. It nearly brought tears to your eyes to watch the steamers move that broken diesel train up the grade!!

Re: A CLUB QUEEN GETS SOME QUICK DISCONNECTS

John_S,
Very good! I just had to laugh when I read that. Through all the discussions regarding prototypical, which I do not disagree with in the main, at the end of the day, there is that very out-of-scale engineer riding the tender as you roll down the track! :D

Re: Lathe Selecting

Haha...no worries about shipping costs! If I saw costs through the roof, I would try to find a book elsewhere. As for classic reference materials, I LOVE them. In many cases they can be had at a real bargain, and I agree totally that just because something is old does not mean it is outdated! I dabb...

Re: Lathe Selecting

So true on the reference books! I know very little at this point about the proper tools to use with a given material, to say nothing of which material to choose for a given job in the first place! I am all about learning from others and avoiding the mistakes that others have encountered. I looked up...

Re: Lathe Selecting

Pete, Thanks for taking the time to write all that out. I appreciate all the advice. I agree that taking time to get the right thing will be for the best! I am anxious to get started, but I am not anxious for any frustrations with a worn out machine. I had actually thought about refurbing an older l...
