Flat belt for my cutter grinder
I need a replacement belt for my KO Lee Cutter grinder. The one I have is getting very worn and need to replace it. I checked with McMaster but the one I got from them (orange) is too flexible and the motor torque really flexes and jumps off the flat pulleys easily. The belt I have is almost a cloth...

Adapting armstrong straight shank to CXA tool holder
I finished modifying an Armstrong straight shank tool holder to a CXA quick change tool holder. I've been wanting to do this since I saw a video of abom79 using one in a recent video. I will allow easy and quick changes with any 1/2 inch tool: carbide, brazed carbide or high speed steel. There was q...

Lubricants for the Hendey
I am looking for some advice as to what are the proper lubricants for the Hendey 12x30 lathe. This lathe has separate front and rear reservoirs for its tapered roller spindle bearings and what would be the best for the headstock and quick change gear box. I believe the apron needs Way oil as it uses...

Hendey 12x30 has arrived
After a lot of work figuring out the logistics of getting a 3000lb machine moved over 200 miles away, its finally in my garage for disassembly, and cleaning. Machines of this quality are very rare in my area and when they are available they demand very high prices. My first project is to drain and f...

Re: Hendey 12x30 gearhead lathe
I agree, I already have a chuck saddle for my Heavy 9 but mostly for protection of the ways as the 6 inch chucks are pretty manageable. I will definitely will build one for the Hendey, the 8 inch 3 jaw is considerably heavier than those 6 inchers I have and if I get a 10" 4jaw that will be even...

Re: Hendey 12x30 gearhead lathe
Thanks for the advise. I agree and I plan to sling the lathe using the cross bracing between the ways and use the carrage and tailstock to adjust the balance point. This machine as tapered roller bearing in the spindle.

Hendey 12x30 gearhead lathe
I recently pulled the trigger and purchased a 1930 Hendey 12x30 gear head lathe. The lathe is labeled as a 12" swing, but it should handle more. It came only with a 8" 3 jaw chuck, so I need a 4 jaw, and at least one faceplate. My question is will a 10 inch 4 jaw work fine on this machine?...

Re: Purchasing a Hendey Lathe
Well thanks for all the great comments, there greatly appreciated. It looks like I am going to get to inspect and possibly purchase the 18 speed 12x30 Hendey I have referred to sometime around the end of this month. I have some experience inspecting machine tools, and will bring the appropriate...

Purchasing a Hendey Lathe
I am looking at buying a 12x30 18 speed Hendey lathe. The machine is suppose to be in running order and has a taper attachment and VFD with it. It has a D1-6 spindle. Are there any special concerns that I should have when evaluating this machine? It is a beast and weights about 3000lbs so I don't wa...
