Re-seating check valve?
I have a right angle check valve on my 1/8 LE American that serves for feed water from my mechanical pumps. Last time out, it started leaking steam into the waterline. I took it apart, cleaned the inside, flushed the lines, and seated the check ball with a light tap. Tested it again today and it is ...

Re: Digital steam locomotive bell?
I designed one some years back (schematic attached) and it sounded pretty good but I never installed it.
The down-side is that you have to download an audio clip, open it in a Hex editor, and trim out the code to transfer to the ROM, and then program the ROM.

Re: Wooden boxcar door track?
Now, do you want doors that slide open and closed, or do you want that and them to look prototypical? I decided to just go with wooden slides for now (until I think of and build something better). Yes, I wanted working doors so I can store stuff inside or make fake cargo. Doors open.jpg Roof finish...

Re: Wooden boxcar door track?
Has anybody MADE working door tracks for a 1-1/2" scale boxcar? I have been scratching my head for weeks and haven't been able to figure out how to do it!

Re: Inexpensive 7.5" trucks?
I played with the design of a wood-beam truck for awhile but couldn't figure out how to get the flexibility to have a truck that would track well. (My normal standard for 7.5" Ga is to be able to put a 1/4" piece of steel under any wheel and have the other 3 stay on the rails.) I made a pa...

Wooden boxcar door track?
I am working on a 40 foot wooden boxcar (1/4" Birch ply) and haven't been able to figure out how to do the sliding door track. I'd really like to have the doors open-able. I have been searching the Net but not come up with anything.
Has anyone seen or come up with a way to make the tracks?

Re: Night Running & Lights?
As I mentioned above, get a PWM dimmer off Ebay for about $5 and dim the light when approaching oncoming traffic. LOL! You haven't had a close look at a Little Engine's American - there isn't enough space in there to hide a sugar cube! I have a T10 LED bulb in the headlight, the kind used f...

Re: Valve for steam-operated drains?
The cylinder cocks should need nothing more complicated than a steam gate or globe valve, steam on or off. Quick opening or closing is not required, just properly sealing. Maybe I’m off my nut. No, you are not 'off your nut. For steam-operated drains, they need to apply boiler pressure to the line ...

Valve for steam-operated drains?
I made a set of steam-operated cylinder drains for my American this winter only to find that my pressure/vent valve leaks like a sieve!
(It applies pressure to hold the drains closed and vents to atmosphere to drain.)
Does anybody know who makes pressure/vent valves? (Preferably in 1/4-40)

Re: machining should square
I find it hard to believe that the shoulder on a turned shaft wouldn't be square - seems like it would be hard to make a shaft with an out-of-square shoulder. I'd be looking hard for something else! Using a precision square, check that the face of the step is machined perpendicular to the shaft exte...

Re: Reading rotary table????
Writing down the sequence worked the charm (for my feeble mind). I was doing a set of IBLS steam-operated cylinder drains with four #2 screws each and screwed one up yesterday with one hole slightly out of position so I had to enlarge the clear holes on that one. I made three more today (WITH my lis...
