Re: Need help finding the next two tools for the shop
I have a 2 ton famco -used for $40. It's been enough for pressing for small engines and most projects. Hydraulic would be nice but running out of room in my garage. As for cutting - 4x6 bandsaw is the way to go. Mine's Harbor Freight but you can get others. Jet, Grizzly .. to name a few. Same casting.

TAKE IT APART!!! Mine sat on the skid on dollies until I figured out how to take it apart. milling head off tail stock off compound/cross slide off If you need to lighten some more then take the motor off. I jacked the main casting up to the bench using a motorcycle jack. Then a short lift with help...

Rusty tools!
It's been cold in Chicago lately... with wildly varying temperatures. This past week I went to the garage to find rust on my crosslide and compound! EEEEEEK!!!!   Some PB Blaster and Scotchbrite took care of it. But I think it's because of condensation. I have an unheated garag...

Re: reverse tumbler
Torch, thanks for the pictures... I looked at my machine and it won't work there. There's a set of clutch gears that lock together with fingers. One sides rotates freely until engaged in the key and clutch. I don't see an easy way to reverse this mechanism here. Will go back to the drawing board... ...

Re: New to Forum and Machining
The Chinese paint is poor and comes off with an abrasive dish pad. Luckily, the Rustoleum Marigold in spray cans is a perfect match. But I re-brushed the entire pan, and could not get the same color in a brush-on, so it is a bit yellower. (Their small can of touch-up paint included with the machine...

Re: Which quick change tool post for my 3 in 1???
Torch thanks for the insight. I will start with the BXA wedge type Chicom. I'm sure it will be more than fine... I can make do with the 4way but will be nice to have some tool holders for the unusal bits I have. Will be a trade off...

Re: reverse tumbler
I believe your machine has a lever to disconnect the lead screw drive between the change gears and the lead screw. Mine has a quick-change gearbox in place of that disconnect. It incorporates the reverse gear. You could probably modify or replace yours with a reverse gear: quick-change_gearbox.jpg ...

Re: New to Forum and Machining
Tom, It was not a nice move and I used a motorcycle lift to lift the pallet up high enough to the bench to facilitate a shift to the bench with a friend or just the bed and motor. My milling head was not that heavy... I was able to lift and line up with the gears myself... I'm younger but average bu...

Re: reverse tumbler
wish i had a smaller list of must do's for the machine. This is definitely a high priority for making tooling. This is definitely do-able. I'm gonna tackle this one for my machine.

Re: New to Forum and Machining
Tod,
I finally got around to putting mine on a stand. I took the lathe apart and the bed was a two man lift. Everything else went back together solo. Your machine is a little different but you can always lighten up a machine by disassembling. I got a thorough internal cleaning out of it!
