Here are some pictures of the car that was in my friend's house. Note the interesting way of seating, I never saw anything like that before.

1-1/2” scale Sunbeam headlight ****SOLD****

I have one Sunbeam Headlight left, from a batch of 8.. The price is $225 with free shipping... Once again, these have plastic reflectors and an acrylic lens.. Over this past summer, I researched several headlights on operating live steam locomotives, I felt that none of them got anywhere near hot, a...

Re: silver soldering steel to steel

Thanks to everyone with the great replies.. I suspect that my previous failures with cold rolled steel was that I was probably using 12L14, as I have it on hand because of it's ease of machining.. Knowing this, I'm going to attempt it again with a test piece first on 1018..
Thanks again; John

Mostly, It is all about the lead content of the steel - peroid. The higher it is, the more difficult it is to silver solder.
This was what I was afraid of... I'm not sure if it's doable. I'd hate to invest a ton of time in several pieces, then find out that I can't solder them together..

silver soldering steel to steel

Hi All, I've silver soldered a lot of brass, bronze and copper, and I've gotten pretty good at it.. However, my experiences with 1018 CRS have been so-so at best. It seems like it throws off so much carbon that the flux gets contaminated with it and spoils the joint. I've only used the white flux, b...

There are also some 3/4" turbo generator plans floating around out there by Otha Hege.. Do a google search with his name and add turbo generator, the prints will come up..
