Re: Machining side rods for a 1.5" scale 2-8-0
Thanks for the kind words Adam! The rods look great! I've done dozens of waterjetted rods. Typically, I use 2 vises with aluminum soft jaws machined to the waterjet profile. I will program the finish dimensions and mill the outside profiles and interpolate the bores. Lowering the spindle on the ends...

Re: USPS is a mess...
I ordered some parts from Jesse Banning in July. He shipped via Usps. I would expect to receive a package from NW Washington State in about a week. Well, some dolt at USPS dropped the box into a bin going to Guam. I don’t blame Jesse for this. I did finally get the package after about a month. I bou...

Re: AME quits publication
Do you know www.gartenbahn-werkstatt.com ? It is written in German AND in English. Although the English text often is shorter (which perhaps could change if the supplier gets enough requests for this), there seem to be lots of people buying it who do not speak German. I often read that people here ...

Re: Pennsy E6 build
Andy, not to derail your project post but would you elaborate a little more on the CAD/Shapeways/foundary process? Those parts are beautiful! What kind of quantities? How do costs compare on 3D printed parts to cast pieces? I recently created a G-scale driver I was considering and found 3D printed ...

Re: Nathan 4000C's in 1.5" Scale
When in doubt; how were the originals made? A former coworker from the Southern Steam Program told me that. Make it like the prototype, that way you know it will work. Both locomotives had a Nathan 4000 injector. The were simple to operate. Pull one lever and it’s on. Very complex innards though. Ma...

Hey Buddy, great achievments, glad to see that you started a new model. Im so envious of your casted parts. We still need such good parts here in Germany. Power further so, will follow your progress with highest interest. See ya... Chris Thanks Chris! Are you familiar with Fusion 360? I learned how...

Re: Pennsy E6 build
Thank you for the kind words! Yes, Marty and Glenn are very talented. This is my 3rd boiler from Marty. He does the job the right way with the correct materials and processes. I first read about the Pennsy's Super-Atlantic in "Pennsy Steam and Semaphores". Great read, btw. All the great photos of th...
