You might also try tinting the actual LED with some of the translucent paints from Tamiya. Laurie McClean a.k.a. scoopmmr on Youtube uses this technique to adjust the color of the surface mount LED's that he uses and I'm sure this tactic would be worth a shot. Just an idea...
