Smokebox Inspection Cover

My first question to this forum after I joined was a source for a smokebox inspection cover. I couldn't find one and there wasn't any suggestions for one, so I drew one up myself, had it 3D printed, and cast it in bronze. I installed it this Saturday. The chain mount should be a pipe mount, but I di...

Re: Finished - sort of

Great work.

Mine has been running for 3 years (coal).
I'm in the process or providing more clearance in the trucks (they were too tight).

BTW - it's kinda out of date. More work on the loco than the web page.

Re: Butterfly firebox doors

I have a 3D model of the 1.5" butterfly doors that I cast for my Mike.

I may be possible to scale them up a bit (they are already scaled up for functionality - a fist needs to fit).

Re: Tapping Pipe Fittings

I made some split - round holders, held together with two SHCS.

I'll take some pictures of them and post them.

Re: Steam turbo generator

Howard,

You are correct, my mistake (I can always claim the little label is hard to read ;)

There are two original Mosley turbogenerators within our group and my casting match.

I bought them as a dummy turbogenerator set from the vendor that owned them before L.E. (I don't remember the name).

Re: Steam turbo generator

I believe that the MO5 (the set with the Quarter) is the same patterns as used in the Mosley design.
There is a bearing recess in the front casting.
I have a design for making it functional and if I ever get my butt in gear, I'll have it published in LS&OR.

Re: Tender Tank

18 out of 1000 I got some 316 stainless, 0.070 thick for a great price at a junkyard. I had it waterjet cut, both the outline and rivet pilot holes. To my surprise, the rivets (properly set) are water tight. The only sealing with solder I had to do was the bottom row - the rivet tool could not be pe...
