Re: New Jersey: Cook Tool & Machine
You’ll have to battle UPS over the shipping charges. If there was a cheaper way that we could count on, we’d use it. It also depends on how far from NJ the package has to go.i got sticker-shock at $40 to send a DVD to the UK!

Re: Heinrich 3TS cleanup advice needed
Thanks for those comments. By the looks of the vise, I didn’t think those bars would come out easily. I’ll follow your advice and go lightly one the cleaning. I hadn’t thought of the finer Scotchbrite - sounds good - the long soak does too.

Heinrich 3TS cleanup advice needed
Just acquired a decent Heinrich ST3 vise. It is in reasonable shape - has seen a few wars, but survived! :-) After oiling it moves fairly well, but does stick slightly now and then. I'm wondering if it is possible (or even advisable!) to drive out the two side rails so they could be given a serious ...

Re: Electronic Leadscrews?
Greetings! This thread is a bit old - but I thought I'd throw in a little update. I have the latest version of the Rocketronics Electronic Lead Screw (ELS3) on my Little Machine Shop LMS 3536 (Seig SC4) lathe. Once installed - it does work very very well! And it is NOT a replacement for CNC. It is a...

How to square a 1/8” plate on the mill?
I have learned how to square a BLOCK on the mill from the great video by Tom Grifen. Now I have a 10” x 10” x 1/8” AL plate I’ve sawn out of a larger plate. I’d like to square all 4 edges but not sure how to line it up with the table. I know I can mill any of the 4 edges to start, but not sure how t...

Electronic Speed Control for WEN 4214
Recently I added a WEN 4214 drill press to my shop, but was VERY disappointed at the mechanical variable speed. While it did work, and nicely built, it was as noisy as a rock crusher and a bit inconvenient to use! So after much YouTube and forum research, I came up with plan to use a DC motor from a...

Re: Relocating some holes
Yes! Most DRO's have a ABS (absolute) and an INC (incremental) mode. Locate in the ABS mode, switch to INC, move the offset you want, reset 0,0. Now all locations will be off by the amount you moved from ABS to INC. Aha! That was the one I was looking for - Thanks! As it turns out I had previously ...

Re: Relocating some holes
Sorry for the vague question - I just thought it was an operation that might be built in or do-able with the DRO. There is a central post-hole with 4 related screw-holes. I think I can just re-drill the aligning post hole, and set joystick base back on it - and mark the new hole positions to re-drill.

Relocating some holes
I have a piece with a number of related holes that have turned out to be off center. I can mount the piece in the mill which has a DRO. Then I can locate the new center properly. They aren't off by much - maybe 3/8" or so... Is it possible to use the DRO to relocate the new holes as an offset f...

Re: Mini Mill Column Flex
You could always attach a chain to it and throw it into the ocean and use it as a boat anchor. Buy a larger mill with enough rigidity for your application. Gee, what a helpful suggestion. Not everyone has the extra cash to lay down on bigger better equipment. Using an x2 mill and a 7"x1...
