What details do you want to see made avaliable?

I'm hoping to start a discussion, so let me put a question to the community... What detail parts not currently offered by any suppliers in the live steam hobby would you like to see made avaliable and why? It doesn't have to be specifically for your locomotive or project, perhaps something you've no...

1.5" Detroit Terminal Check Valves - New from Dans Details

To compliment my line of 1.5" scale Nathan DV series mechanical lubricators I'm now offering Detroit High Pressure Terminal Checks. These little fellas are found all over late steam era equipment. They were used to ensure one way flow of pressurised lubrication to valves, glands, shafts, flexib...

Re: Building the Frisco 1522

Beautiful work Jerome! I'm loving watching your updates, be sure keep them coming. I'll second Greg with the carbide spade bits. I just finished up all my loco springs, if your interested look at the most recent post in the build log about my UP 4012. I will add that rather than a spade bit and dril...

Re: Union Pacific Big Boy 4012 in 1.5"

Asteamhead, thank you! By the way a pizza oven is a great idea! I'll have to get one specifically for doing the rest of the rims. These last few weeks I decided to tackle one of the more repetitive tasks and get it out of the way. Springs. After a lot of investigation I decided to cut them with an a...

Re: Union Pacific Big Boy 4012 in 1.5"

Two weeks ago I finally picked up the last of the castings at the docks, all 600lbs of them! It feels good to be at a point where I have all the major components and from here on out it's a case of making parts and machining castings. I figured I would document the parts in one big progress photo fo...

Re: Diesel-Electric Models

Andrew the locos in the photos are built to approximately 1:6. I don't know why us Australians have a need to sit in our locos, personally I think its a bit silly to build over scale and put a hole in a loco for the driver, but each to their own. If I were to build a 1.5" (1:8) scale diesel I w...

Re: Diesel-Electric Models

Here at the Diamond Valley Railway we have a number of true diesel electric and petrol electric locomotives. They operate just as their full size counterparts with the throttle controlling the power. I can provide more specifics if anyone is interested. Here's a brief overview of a few:

Re: Union Pacific Big Boy 4012 in 1.5"

So It's been just over a year since my last update... I've been distracted with the crane build and a few other little projects, but with the news that Roger has dropped the last of my castings off at the freight forwarder I've found the inspiration to get stuck into the loco once again. I decided I...
