Set cleanup/setup
Hello, Well I am into month 3 waiting on my chip/oil tray. Once It gets here I will be able to set up my mill. In the mean time I want to know your thoughts on cleaning up the shipping grease. Do you literally need to take the table off to clean the ways? Is it possible to just saturate the ways wit...

Re: Nice Toolmakers Clamps
Gee, it's too bad you fellows don't use them. I have about 20 toolmaker clamps and want more. There are so many ways to use them. They fit into tight places that C clamps cannot go. You can clamp one on a vise jaw to act as a stop for your workpiece you can clamp the bottom in your vise jaws and us...

Re: Nice Toolmakers Clamps
If you are having to mill the entire length it is. Otherwise you'd have to adjust the position in the vise.PeteH wrote:Good example. But is that any better than holding the workpiece in a mill vise ?

Re: Nice Toolmakers Clamps
Can someone explain what use these things are in a workshop? I have never had any success at clamping anything with them. You never seem to be able to get enough grip, their like a Chinese puzzle to tighten and it always seems like I am an arm short when trying to fit them to anything. If I ever ma...

Re: Nice Toolmakers Clamps
I have 3 different sizes and use them frequently. But I fuss with smaller parts and some are not suitable for clamping with a 4" c-clamp. As with thread micrometers, they are specialized tools for which there are few alternatives. One thing that was noticed in the picture of the e-bay versions...

Been learning it for a couple weeks now and its fairly easy (so far). Anyone have any tips on making threads?

Re: First time cutting flutes in a barrel
Guys, because they screwed up and sent the wrong chip tray with my mill, I haven't even set it up much less turned it on yet LOL. I have no choice but to take one step at a time, and slow ones at that. I have aluminum stock sitting in the garage and with the cost of 4140, I will start on the aluminu...

Re: First time cutting flutes in a barrel
For someone just learning how to use a mill I think it will be fine. Once I get more comfortable with it I will get some 4140 or something like it.
