Re: touch screen ghost touch
Either use a knuckle or other "ungreased" body part to operate the screen, or buy a stylus (kind of like a pen that works on touch screens) and keep it handy (and clean).

Re: THE END!
Check out groups.io - you can directly port a lot of that info over. Not sure what can/can't get ported over but seems a lot of former yahoo groups have been going that way for a while even before the end was announced.

Re: Will a Bigger Compressor Make me Happy?
Last time I eyeballed a Quincy at Northern Tool it had a US made motor and I think the pump was of US origin too. YMMV. Not the case with my IR... I think the motor is Mexican and the pump is Chinese.SteveHGraham wrote: ↑Mon Sep 23, 2019 5:56 pmI'll bet Quincy is now Chinese, too. It's really Qing Tzu. Probably.

Hello All, Frame is finished with the three new castings machined and test fit. Lower frame spreader, modified design from the original to be used with the water jet frame rails. On to the cylinders....... Thanks for sharing that. Having received a waterjet frame set last year (hanging on the shop ...

Re: Stand for a Burke #4 horizontal mill?
The mechanics bottom tool boxes or "roll away" type with the castors are well worth looking at. Most of those I've seen (for not-exorbitant sums of money) are too flimsy to want to put a heavy machine tool on top... however it could be added to an open frame bench as storage. The first th...

Stand for a Burke #4 horizontal mill?
I am looking for a stand for a Burke #4 mill. I have been offered such a machine without a stand and would like to have something ready for when the machine comes to my shop. A few options... 1. Premade machine table: such as https://www.littlegiant-usa.com/products/mt1-1824-18 No time required (oth...

Re: Lead-Free Plumbing Solder: is it Greenie Garbage?
I'm a bit surprised by this, I recently had to replace a leaky tee in my plumbing and found it pretty easy to do. My technique was torch on the pipe for a few seconds, then feed solder to the pipe on both sides of the top of the joint so it runs down the sides and wicks into the joint. Nine joints (...

Re: Building the 2.5" Scale Shay
Is there a reason not to use a pneumatic hammer for setting rivets? Or is this just working with what was on hand?

Re: Building the 2.5" Scale Shay
I have been thinking (way) ahead for my future build about stainless vs brass vs mild steel... almost want to suck it up and pay for brass. My uneducated assumption is it'll be easier to work than stainless (for a riveted tank), is that correct? Guess I'd need to learn riveting too.

Re: RR Coupler for Trailer hitch?
Definitely an improvement vs. walking into a greasy trailer hitch ball, when wearing khaki trousers. Don’t ask me why I know this! ...or doing what I did, banging a shin on the hitch ball then jumping around on the other leg like a darn fool, stumbling and breaking an ankle and spending a week in a...

Not much, as long as you use non-flammable brake cleaner.Soot n' Cinders wrote: ↑Tue Aug 14, 2018 7:44 pmSure, I’ll just throw some greasy rags on a baking sheet and tie it to the boiler with ratchet straps! What could go wrong?
