Re: PTFE film for Brake Valve wafer / disc
Thank you all for your replies. I ended up ordering the 60" roll from amazon and now have enough to last several lifetimes. Guess I will have to find other uses for it.

PTFE film for Brake Valve wafer / disc
Nelson mentions on his site that he used PTFE from Mc Master that is .015" thick for his redesigned/2nd shay brake valve. A 6" x 12" x .015" sheet from them costs ~10 and with shipping it'll be around ~20 bucks to my door. I found a 16" x 60" .0138" (.35mm) thick r...

Re: Wood Firing a Chloe
We have ran wood in our Allen and the coal grates worked with wood. My observation was the rate at which the wood would disappear was faster than compared to coal. Consider that wood BTUs per cord are different per species firewoodresource . com/firewood-btu-ratings/ Eucalyptus is 2nd highest BTU pe...

Working electrical representation of a square OBH. I have the following prints from Norfolk & Western Historical society and could make one, but looking to see if someone makes these or has one for sale.

BC,
Thank you for your reply. I came to a similar conclusion and we are going with ER70 rods. We are taking boiler parts to our welder tomorrow!

Boiler Tig Rods
Hello all, What TIG rods are acceptable for welding our Steel boilers? ER70S-2 and ER70S-6 come up the most in chaski threads, but after talking to our tig welder who works in the steam industry, he wants to weld our boiler up with ER90. This is the first I have heard of this tig rod... I've looked ...

Re: Steam Engine Caught on Infrared Camera
Yeah, I went back to edit to say journals and wheels but wasn't able to. You can see what appears to be wheel heat on the passenger cars. It is curved and below the square shape of the journal.

Steam Engine Caught on Infrared Camera
Somehow I stumbled upon this video on YouTube and thought I'd share. Way cool. I like how you can even see the heat all the wheels on the tender and cars generate. I also noticed that the tender coupler looks hot, any ideas on why that would be? https://youtu.be/nhMXHdGYGNQ nhMXHdGYGNQ -Mike

Re: Live-in Railroad club
I'd be very interested in a track connected community when I retire, but I would want the fees / dues to be high enough to cover paid employees. I don't want to mow grass, pull weeds, plant flowers, or clean gutters when I retire. Now then, with that being said; stoking a fire ring, a burn pile, or ...
