Re: a random project

I have some mixed feelings about it , nothing bad to say though . But keep in mind I bought it for a taig cnc mill trying to keep things light weight . Not saying anything against it because does work good but I wouldn't intentionally buy it for a machine the size of my 440 . If I wanted this style ...

Re: a random project

i finished the fixture today along with making the part blanks . first thing was to face the top of the fixture and then machine the two boss's ( spell or term correction please) that locate the part , then drill and threadmill for the mounting screws . that is followed up with some contouring to pr...

a random project

i have a tormach pcnc 440 , i have to say that i love it . but just because i own a cnc mill doesn't mean that i am a g code wizard . quite the opposite in fact . so i spend quite a bit of time doing projects that serve no good purpose except to learn . the end goal is to learn some new 3d finishing...

Re: Next winter's project

I grew up on a farm can't say I was fond of it . I then spent most of my working career in the mining industry . I didn't hate it . But when you ride a seat around to earn your living you tend to try to avoid another one . Then you get older and start thinking about that 8 cord of firewood you cut e...

Re: Next winter's project

I have a small Ford tractor that's about the same size of the small kubota bx. It mows grass in the summer and I use it for firewood in the fall . It doesn't have a loader , but then i haven't ever realy needed one i expect it'll keep ticking along as long as I need it to , it's hard to justify repl...

Re: Milling Vise Squareness

I'm on the same page now . So please don't lump my forward thinking here as a response you'd get from a serious machinist. Many many many others will have a far different attitude and opinion then me . I have a grizzly mill and a grizzly 4inch vise . I did my best squaring up the mill and then the v...

Re: Next winter's project

I have to admit I've been wanting to buy a Kubota tractor for a few years now . A b2601 to be exact . I just can't justify buying one though . Maybe if I had a good excuse to own one other then mowing grass

Re: Milling Vise Squareness

Something here confuses me greatly . So I don't get why a person should give a hoot about the top of the vise jaws except that they be reasonably close to each other to avoid tool collisions. When I set up a vise all I care about is if the face of the fixed jaw is parallel to the axis I have it in l...

Re: Next winter's project

We don't consider them to be really old till you get back into the 1920's and very early 30's . The stubborn guys say single digits or teens to be realy old . The first tractor I bought to tinker on was a '29 John Deere model d and at the time ( early 90's ) it was still possible to find nos parts a...

Re: Next winter's project

Well I wouldn't go so far as to say it's in amazing condition , it's had a coat or two of the wrong color paint in the past . It's actually supposed to be flambau red not the Persian Orange ( allis Chalmers ) it is now . But it is in good shape , it missed having the case version of a three point hi...

Re: Bearing race nomenclature

My only helpful suggestion is going to cause you even more work ;) Instead of grinding the tool by hand put your lathe to work . Make a tool holder for the die grinder or what ever you happen to be using to power the burr and mount that sucker on the tool post . It'll at least give you a more precis...

Next winter's project

This is my project for winter , 1949 case sc . It runs ok and except for the 6v generator everything works as it should . I don't plan on a restoration , just gonna fix up some minor issues . It has a distributor conversion on it now but I'd like to get the magneto back in working order and on the t...
