Re: Possible uses for Tile Saw?
I know how you feel Steve. I just got a HPC key cutting machine for nothing. Someone abused it and it's old, so it's no good for a locksmith. But it's a real nicely built machine and the motor runs just fine. I just can't figure out what to do with it, yet. Mark

Re: Q: Least damaging way of removing id markings on tools
I'm with neanderman. My father-in-law was a machinist and owned a 10" Sheldon. It was his pride and joy. He taught my son how to use it. The old man is gone now, but my son has his lathe. Ed completely rebuilt that machine to its original glory. In restoring it, there was one thing that my son ...

Re: Thoughts on Mini Mills?
To Brooklyn: It sounds like that you are starting out, the Grizzly will be just fine. Just make sure that you can get tooling(in this case, it should be no problem). As you learn and develop your skills, you can always upgrade to a larger machine. Or maybe not, I don't know what you plan to do in th...

Re: Taking Wobble Out of HF Tool Stand
I don't mind if the holes are slightly oversize, because it give you some play in order to square up the corners. However, get rid of those Philips head bolts and use hex or even round head Allen. For strength add braces and or gusset plates. Put all bolts, nuts and washers slightly loose, square he...

Re: Leak in New Harbor Freight Shop Press
LOL, yeah Steve, that sounds like Harbor Freight. One goes into the store to care of some problem or buy a specific item and you end up spending more money then you expected. Mark

Re: Leak in New Harbor Freight Shop Press
My experience with HF if you can bring the item back to the store with the receipt and they have one in stock, they are pretty good at exchanging. I've heard ordering a part can take weeks. Mark

Re: Flea Market Tips?
Steve, this also can apply to yard sales. Go early, expect nothing or anything. I bought a small Shop fox wood lathe for 15 bucks. The only thing missing were the knock out tool and face plate(later made those). The guy used it once trying to make a bowl. Came out real good on that one. Most of the ...

Re: Chuck wrench for small drill chucks
Great idea! Now I know what I will do with my extra keys. One thing that I will do different is put a hole or hook on them so that I don't lay it on the bench and spend 15 minutes looking for the sucker even though it's right in front of me. Mark

Re: Cutting wood screw threads?
What is this screw going into? You can tap wood and use machine threads. In the past, I've have been able to use machine screws in wood and it holds just fine. Mark

Re: Making friends with machine shops
I have a friend whom once ran a window glass shop. Over the years he has accumulated lots of aluminum that he recycles. He's retired(?) and recycles many metals to sell to certain dealers. My shed was once full of cast iron sewer pipe and old appliances. The last three years we have traded what meta...

In this case, if you want to see a left-handed thread, just use a mirror. Mark

Re: Am I crazy? Shipping a lathe from Oakland to Tampa?
It sounds like that you have made up your mind to buy it and have it shipped. That's fine, what I would be concern about is the shipping crate and packing. And this you will have to research. Such as other boxes may be put on top and the crate be fork lift friendly. Well, I think that you get the id...
