Re: USA Trip from San Francisco to Las Vegas
Don’t miss Sonoma train town, in the Napa-Somona valley, just north of San Francisco. Good day trip. Then from there, you could drive to Sacramento, and on to the Nevada state railroad museum outside of Reno, marvelous place to visit, particularily if you drive east from Sacramento to Reno, then sou...

Re: Track Tamping Tools
Jeff, you might mention what size ties, track, and ballast you are working with. Tie spacing is important also. For the ride on gauges 7.5” ga up to grand scale (15”-18”) a wooden shovel handle, or long 1” wooden dowel works very well as a tamping tool. Simple, but very effective in compacting crush...

OTTAWAY B-14 Rocketliner F unit
Last of 12 Rocketliner F7 diesel outline units built by Ottaway amusements, in the mid 1980’s- just prior to being bought out by Chance Amusements. The prior owner had stripped this engine down and accomplished a partial restoration before loosing interest. The shell and frame are steel, with body w...

Re: Great Northern GE 44 ton Center Cab Electric restoration
Conquered a big psychological hurdle today- decided how to mount the access doors on each hood end. Literally after 9 months of delay ( partially due to back injury) finally settled on hanging the access doors flush with the body. So milled the door blanks down to 1/16”th clearance to sit within the...

Re: 48v battery chargers
Bill, shaft diameter is 1” OD, if I remember correctly. Here’s a couple of pics.
If this thing turns out to be a hot rod, like Steggy says, maybe I’ll go for red and yellow flames on the nose.

Re: 48v battery chargers
Steggy, it’s been three years since I researched the motors. They’ve been on the shelf, haven’t touched them since, so my memory is really fuzzy. I remember these as series wound DC motors - and each motor having four terminals. Regen braking would be a real plus on this. Iam still doing a few mods ...

Re: 48v battery chargers
Bill, loco is a 4” scale (1/3rd) and 12” gauge freelance design. Originally designed to pull 20,000# train weight; 60 passengers or thereabouts. So set up to accomodate two 7” dia forklift traction motors- one power plant and battery bank in each hood end, replicating the 1940’s Whitcomb and GE 44 t...

15” gauge Cagney
Hello All, Alas, finally decided I will never be able to finish the five miniature train restoration projects sitting in my shop. So putting my 15” gauge Cagney project up for sale. The locomotive includes a 2013, apparently unused, 150 psi, 14” code boiler, mounted on a new frame and cylinders, wit...

Re: 48v battery chargers
Bill, I haven’t selected the batteries yet, or a particular battery charger. Just doing due diligence on what to purchase… I will likely purchase traditional lead acid commercial forklift batteries (high amp hour) as the battery weight will contribute to additional tractive effort and be significant...

Re: 48v battery chargers
Good info. Thanks. One of the reasons I decided to go with the electric power plant conversion was to learn more about EV components. This is very helpful.

48v battery chargers
Hello all, Just looked at various 36v and 48v golf kart battery chargers for possible use on my 48v center cab build. They all seem to be sold with different wattages. Some around 360 watts, or thereabouts, others, more expensive ones list for around 1000watts. What does the wattage rating actually ...
