Re: Brake Make

Yes, it is 316 and minimally magnetic. When we eventually updated the gas system they went to, we started having to differentiate plugs that were “Chrome 7” and “Chrome 9”. I got a radio call to come over to a manifold where a wrong type plug was put in and had galled up a few turns in. Hopeless. Th...

Brake Make

I used to work for a privately owned Oil Refinery. Top management had Nomex and could often be found out in the operating units. There were stainless bull plugs in one of the systems that had to be replaced with a brand new piece each time one was removed. I asked a boss if I could have a couple use...

Re: Right Angle Head for the Bridgeport clone

I have a Birmingham, built mid ‘90s, with a Taiwan head and an unknown maker right angle R8 attachment. The fit on the spindle is great with a jack screw to expand the adapter during assembly on the extended quill. I have found that a longer draw bar is a huge help during fit up and operating. Your ...

Re: Hot glue gun

This unit opened my horizons to hot glue guns. Some unqualified successes and others not so sterling. Nevertheless I now often include the potential of hot glue usage when stuff needs fixing.

Re: Paint question

Have you thought about using Glyptal ? One coat. Heat treats at 225/250f. Oil resistant.
This is color after heat treat.

Re: Resurface Motorcycle clutch Basket?

Count the teeth on the ring gear and just maybe they divide evenly with the # of slots. Best case scenario you could use the gear as an index with a detent. Mount a boss on an angle plate that closely fits the hub bore. Set up some kind of fixed stop/detent that can reference a good repeating sectio...

Re: Requesting assistance for board issues

Right at the very bottom of this page is a “ Delete all board cookies “ link clicker. (When you’re NOT yet logged in ) Click on that to reset this specific environment. I used to have similar issues on an MC forum that uses this same software and it would allow me to log in after cleaning out any la...

Re: Two solvent questions....

I was cleaning the inside of my 70 Year old H-D crank cases using hot water and Simple Green (twice) and just wasn’t satisfied. My wife had some “Totally Awesome” and one application had them bright and ready for Glyptal paint. Good stuff. Old petroleum based solvent mixes had lots of aromatic compo...

Re: Boring Motorcycle Fork Leg for Bushing?

A buddy that owned an Indy shop back in the mid ‘80s asked me to install an aftermarket “Wide Glide” conversion kit for his FXEF. It was really pretty but the lower leg bushings were too deep and too close together to adequately support without a noticeable shake in the lower legs. He got it as a “p...

Re: Question for the No-DRO Crowd

^^^^^^ The Air Force has problems with the boom on the new KC-46 tankers. The KC-135 while less efficient overall has a time proven boom. A shop I was with recently, was asked to quote on some Boeing drawings from 1974 through a sub-contractor. There were specific part designations pointing to data ...
