collets

I was given a collet set but I am having trouble figuring out what type of collets I have? The length of them - 2.044 inch and the diameter 1.378 they are from 1/8 to 1 inch The holder I think is a CAT 40 ? My milling machine is an R8 I would like to get different holder. Thanks for any help Sandman

I have a 12 x 30 Standard Modern
I was at 90 rpm with a feed rate of .002

Buying a new parting tool

I have watched the videos, aligned the tool holder so its 90 degrees to the work face, adjusted the height so it is center of the work piece. Using a NCIH19-2 blade with a GTN-2 insert. Have a new blade on order cause I have 3 bits now! I start cutting ok with lots of cutting oil then I get part way...

I have attempted to weld a rock drill shaft 7/8 diameter with no luck. The customer said it ran for about 40 seconds then broke right in half see the picture. I pre heated to about 400 degrees F and after welding heated it to 800 degrees F then let it air cool. I used ER 630 stainless and it was tig...

way oil

Hi I have been using hypoid oil for my ways on my standard modern lathe 12 x 30. It has came to my attention to use way oil and I have found a supplier with way oil from 2o weight - to 5o weight What weight of oil should I be using ? I do have some wear on the beds if this makes a difference? Thanks...

Something I just thought about this is in my vice on the bed.

Would I be better to clamp it to the bed and not in the vice?

Thanks for the replies I never thought of shimming the column.... if I shimmed the one side I could run it in one direction .....oh a tilting head would be so much easier.

I get a drag mark in either direction of travel now.

OK so don't tease me I don't have a real mill.... Oh but to dream ! I have a mill drill with the round column, when using the fly cutter the trailing edge is also in contact giving me a rub where I don't really want it ! See the picture I am presuming because my head does not tilt this is a problem ...
