Re: N&W S1a Project - Tender Build
Have had to prioritise some other projects so decided to leave the second bogie and make a couple of simpler bits and pieces, starting with the front steps. Some 1/16" plate was cut and bent to shape. I should have made a former for the sides then make the back to match. Making the sides match ...

Brilliant, thanks. I’ll see what I can come up with at this end from that.

Please do send through the RAL Code if it’s not too much trouble. We might be able to work something out from there. At least it could be a starting point.
Thanks in advance

Absolutely beautiful. You will surely be done by September at this rate!
Is the paint colour something particular (not just black)? I will one day need to paint the S1a and your colour looks fantastic. I am wondering if there was a standard N&W paint color.

Re: N&W S1a Project - Tender Build
Thanks, Gents. Hadn't thought of a grease fitting. Definitely worth considering. Bill, is this something like what you are suggesting? Does there need to be more than one radial (three?) to be sure that gravity can do its job? This could be a good option. I could also use a compressible washer (felt...

A query for the brains trust…. The original plan was to provide oil to the bronze bearings something like this 8549FBD7-8E7F-4D6C-93BC-B2E29E7A1878.png The idea being there would be a reservoir of oil behind the axle and bearing that would make its way between the two. The tight fit of the bearing w...

Doors were machined in bulk. Ten were made which was handy in the end as the first two turned out less than satisfactory. A jig took care of making sure the bends were all in the same place. 82. Door Jig.PNG The door tube silver soldered on and voila … a door. Last job for the doors was to so...

Re: N&W S1a Project - Tender Build
To alleviate the rigidity of the bogie, we ended up sketching up a solution that allowed a corner lift of around 3/16”. This was as simple as a 3* taper on the bearings and similar on the bolster slides. A fixture for the lathe allowed the bronze plain bearings to be held with access to turning th...

Your pump looks fantastic. As does the dummy version.
Interesting idea to include the option to run the steam as compound. Something to consider.
I’ve dropped you a PM re the files.
Thanks in advance

Re: Nelsons Locomotive Works
Just to wrap up my query above, I scoured my HDD and the inter webs for original .pdfs of Nelson's drawings but came up empty handed. However, in case someone ends up here following a similar search, I did find and excellent write up of Nelson's CC Pump including drawings here: http://www.danslocowo...
